La 54ª Edición de los Premios GRAMMY, dará comienzo el próximo 12 de febrero en el Staples Center de Los Angeles. Los premios, compuestos por 78 categorías y 38 géneros musicales, se otorgan por votación de los miembros de la academia National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
Creados por National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences en 1959, cada año reconocen los artistas, logros de una carrera, avances técnicos, la institución, una leyenda y Hall of Fame, más destacados según los miembros de esa academia.
Tawlor Swift (actriz y cantante country) y el rapero LL Cool J, serán los encargados de presentar la ceremonia.
El sindicato de la industria musical estadounidense MusiCares, celebrará hoy 10 de febrero su fiesta paralela a los Grammy’s en la que el premio MusiCares 2012 recae en Paul McCartney. La noche y concierto de gala será presentado por el actor Eddie Izzard y se llevará a cabo en Los Angeles Convention Center, muy cerca del Staples Center. Artistas como Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Norah Jones, Tony Bennett, Alicia Keys, Diana Krall, James Taylor, Foo Fighters, Alison Krauss & Union Station y Foo Fighters formarán parte del evento con sus actuaciones.
Durante la ceremonia de los Grammy’s, compartirán escenario artistas y nombres como The Beach Boys, (que no actuaban juntos desde hace más de 20 años), Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Joe Walsh (The James Gang, The Eagles), Diana Krall, Maceo Parker, The Civil Wars, Foster The People, Adele, Tony Bennett, Lady Antebellum, Gwyneth Paltrow o Ringo Starr, entre otros.
La ceremonia tendrá una duración de 4 horas y media, estará dirigida por Louis J. Horvitz, y CBS Television lo retransmitirá para todo el planeta a través de su canal de YouTube y sitio web. Comenzará a la una de la madrugada de Canarias, una hora más en el territorio peninsular. (8.00 pm, Eastern Time y 5.00 Pacific Time).
Los artistas que más nominaciones tienen son Kanye West con 7 candidaturas, Foo Fighters, Adele y Bruno Mars con 6 nominaciones, Skrillex con 5 y Bon Iver con 4 nominaciones.
Para Dirty Rock, los momentos de la noche serán sin ninguna duda la entrega de los Lifetime Achievement Award (Premios a una larga trayectoria) a muchos de nuestros iconos. El “momento de la noche” será cuando The Allman Brothers Band reciban el Grammy a toda una carrera (Lifetime Achievement Award), Dickey Betts se reunirá con los sureños después de muchísimos años, Kenny West y Kid Rock harán entrega del premio.
The Memphis Horns, con Wayne Jackson y Andrew Love como miembros fundadores, una auténtica institución del Soul de Stax Records en Memphis, recibirán ese premio. La entrega estará a cargo de Booker T. Jones.
George Jones recibirá su reconocimiento, Merle Haggard, otro grandísimo, rendirá pleitesía a Jones, uno de los tipos más influyentes en la música country.
Diana Ross, The Supremes, son lo mismo, una carrera absolutamente plagada de grandes éxitos, catalogada como más grande de la historia, también recibirá su premio a toda una carrera.
Antonio Carlos Jobim, y la Bossa Nova, sin duda la Academia reconoce a uno de los mejores compositores de la música contemporánea y a toda una carrera musical.
Otro momento de la noche en la que el Staples Center se caerá, será el del premio al letrista y músico de Nueva Orleáns, Dave Bartholomew, autor de más de 4000 canciones, disparando siempre Rock and Roll y Soul, como no, Dr. John lo presentará y aquello arderá.
Glenn Campbell, otro ídolo norteamericano del pop y country en la década de los 60’s y 70’s, recibirá el premio a una larga trayectoria.
Finalmente, dos personas que perdimos el pasado año. Gil Scott-Heron, poeta y músico, y probablemente el fundador del Rap, recibirá su homenaje y premio a toda una carrera musical. Y Steve Jobs, co fundador de Apple, quien también recibirá su homenaje y premio a toda una carrera por su labor en la industria y difusión.
Los premios técnicos y de ingeniería a toda una carrera, importantísimos siempre para la industria norteamericana, recaen en Rudy Van Gelder, uno de los técnicos de sonido más importantes para la industria del Jazz y Blue Note.
Celemony, fundado por Neubäcker, revolucionó la industria musical en el 2001 con su novedoso software editor de audio llamado Melodyne, para el progreso de futuras grabaciones musicales y de la industria.
Finalmente Roger Nichols recogerá el Grammy a toda una trayectoria intachable como Ingeniero de Producción. Apodado como “el inmortal” ¿quien no recuerda el sonido de Steely Dan? Pionero de la industria musical en implantar la batería y percusión digital en 1978. La primera canción fue “Hey Nineteen” de Steely Dan.
