Jonny Kaplan es otro de esos tesoros escondidos y subestimados («Hidden Treasure») de la música norteamericana, indio blanco con corazón de Apalache cowboy y bandana, de origen Philly pero afincado en la maravillosa Marina del Rey entre mar y montañas californianas.
Con tan sólo tres discos y otro en ciernes «Sparkle and Shine», Jonny Kaplan se erige como uno de los autores más fieles a la estirpe de los grandes (Tom Petty, Dylan, Stones, Neil Young, Gram Parsons), a la vez que redefine las raíces del Folk-Rock y Country norteamericano a cada paso que da.
Jonny Kaplan siempre se ha sabido rodear de lo mejor en todos sus discos y conciertos, Lucinda Williams, Rami Jaffee, Keith Richards, Jay Dee Maness, Don Heffington, Doug Pettibone, Skip Edwards, Mike Ness, Brian Young o Dusty Wakeman bajista y productor de Lucinda Williams o Dwight Yoakam por citar algunos nombres.
Además Jonny Kaplan abrirá igualmente en formato acústico, los cuatro conciertos que tiene programado Blind Melon en España los días 7 en Barcelona, 9 en Santiago de Compostela, 10 en Bilbao y 11 de noviembre en Madrid, para celebrar el 20 aniversario del su álbum debut homónimo de Blind Melon.
Jonny Kaplan tiene confirmados dos conciertos acústicos en España, el próximo sábado 3 de noviembre en Madrid, Sala Siroco Lounge y el lunes 5 de noviembre en Barcelona en la Sala RockSound, ambos Jonny Kaplan compartiendo escenario con Brad Smith de la banda norteamericana Abandon Jalopy y bajista de los Blind Melon.
La semana pasada Jonny Kaplan confirmaba su presencia por primera vez en un mini tour por Sudamérica, con dos actuaciones en Santiago de Chile, los días 24 de octubre en el Centro Cultural Amanda y el 26 de octubre en la sala Rock & Guitarras.

I came to Chile the same way I came to Spain for the first time. With the help of a friend in santiago who is a music journalist. He booked the shows and took care of everything. | 3. «Sparkle And Shine» was produced by me and mixed and engineered by a very talented producer named Bruce Witkin. It is…in my opinion …my best record to date. It is schedule to be released in The U.S. in the early spring of 2013 …with Europe right after. I’ve been fortunate to have quite a few special guests on this record….and they are all incredible: Rami Jaffee ( Wallflowers , Foo Fighters) Daryl Hannah sang on a few songs with me , Adam MacDougal ( Black Crowes ) Brad Smith ( Blind Melon ) and many more……we can go into detail when the record comes out!!!!! | «Sparkle And Shine» está producido por mí y mezclado por un productor de mucho talento llamado Bruce Witkin. | 6. hmmm….well that is a whole separate interview! Let’s just say that I received and incredible gift from Christopher Thorn …to go make my first record. I had a band that wasn’t really going anywhere…and Christopher and one of my closest friend’s Anthony Smedile ( drummer of 90’s rock band DIG and Dee Dee Ramone) plotted to get me away from my band and into a recording studio!!!!! | hmmm… bueno, ¡ésa es otra entrevista complemente distinta! Digamos solamente que recibí un regalo increíble de Christopher Thorn… para hacer mi primer disco. | 8. Dusty is a producer who has worked with Dwight Yoakum , Lucinda and many others and is also the bassist of the Sin City All Stars. Ride Free definitely has much more of a «Rock» edge than California Heart….and certainly got a lot of attention for me. | 11. Well , every album is a completely different experience. I recorded Seasons in Nashville , and used a very , indie , Lo-Fi approach . | 16. Jakob and I are OLD friends. My old band Hummingbird ( pre California Heart) and The Wallflowers used to play together almost weekly in little clubs in Los Angeles. In fact , the Pedal Steel on «Sixth Avenue Heartache» was from my band! Going on tour with The Wallflowers is like going on a family vacation!!! We have A LOT of fun together…..and here’s a secret: There will be more Wallflowers / Lazy Stars shows in the new year. SSSHHHHHHH. | Jakob y yo somos VIEJOS amigos. Imagine Neil Young solo…then with Crazy Horse…TOTALLY different animal .The fans there have always bee so warm and receptive…and playing acoustic adds an element of intimacy that I am looking forward to sharing with Spanish fans. | ¡¡¡ tengo que decir lo MUY CONTENTO que estoy de ir a España a tocar en formato acústico!!!
