Molly Gene One Whoaman Band (Molly Gene mujeraza como una sola banda) emprenderá su segunda gira Europea, después de su debut en el viejo continente el pasado año en el Muddy Roots Europe Festival en Bélgica como os contamos en nuestro artículo de Dirty Rock y en el Blues Rules Festival de Suiz. En esta nueva gira, Molly Gene actuará en países como España, Francia, Italia, Alemania, Bélgica y Holanda, desde el 13 de febrero hasta el 13 de abril, con fechas y ciudades por confirmar.
Molly Gene One Whoaman Band comienza su extensa gira europea el próximo 13 de febrero en Amiens, Francia y visitará España por primera vez, a partir del 22 de febrero en Avilés, como ciudad bautismal. Las ciudades confirmadas por el momento son Ferrol, Almansa, Alcalá de Henares, Aranda de Duero, Las Palmas, Tenerife, Madrid y Barcelona.

| 1. I was nervous going to a new country so far away from home. It ended up being one of the best tours I have ever been on. Everyone was so hospitable and nice. People genuinely liked my music and really listened when I played. | Estuve nerviosa la primera vez que visité Europa el pasado año, al final terminó siendo una de mis mejores giras de toda mi carrera. I would describe my music as ‘Delta Thrash’ It has a lot of delta blues influence but at the same time a heavy rocking sound that you can thrash your head to. | Describiría mi música como «Delta Thrash». | 5. Most of my life I have lived on a farm. My grandparents had one of the first turkey farms in the United States. The Dyer Turkey Farm. My father is a cattle farmer. He is a hardworking man. When I’m home I help out as much as I can. I’m always doing something out here. Building fence and sheds, cooking, cleaning, sewing and ,. I love it! | He vivido en granjas desde que nací. | 6. My first band was in high school. Seratonin. We were a classic rock cover band. We covered songs like Led Zeppelin, Buffalo Springfield, Ozzy, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin. It was fun and we were pretty good for a bunch of kids. After I graduated from Florida Keys Community College I moved back up to Missouri. I didn’t really know very many musicians. Shortly before I left Florida I had got my foot drum. So I thought of the name One Whoaman Band. Then I realized with the amount of things I had going on I didn’t need anyone in my band. | Mi primera banda comenzó en el instituto, Seratonin. Éramos la clásica banda de rock que tocaba versiones, con canciones de Led Zeppelin, Buffalo Springfield, Ozzy, Jimi Hendrix, o Janis Joplin. Fue divertido y realmente éramos buenos. | 7. Your weapons at the stage are your beatiful voice, your lyrics and guitars, footdrum and harmonica. | 7. I have a Gibson Les Paul, a Fender resonator and my favourite the Univox. I just got a 12 string Univox too that I’m pretty excited about incorporating into my show. The foot drum is made by a fella named Pete Farmer out of Bellingham Washington. I found his website a little over 6 years ago and have been playing it ever since. It is an amazing invention that took my playing to a whole new level I never imagined. It has a kick drum, snare and high hat. It also has interchangeable sticks on either side so you can add a tambourine or egg shaker sound. There is even a cow bell mount. The kick drum folds under and you can carry it like a suitcase. | 8. Hillbilly Love was my first album recorded under Solid Audio Productions. I was just kind of establishing a Molly Gene One Whoaman Band theme. My main inspiration was from a short relationship I was in. He’s a tall, strong, hardworking, handsome man. A true country boy with a big heart. | 9. Hillbilly is not supposed to come off as negative the way I think of it. I was describing the relationship I was in with the back woods man who lives in the rolling hills middle of nowhere Missouri. The title ‘Hillbilly Love’ seemed fitting for that moment in my life. | Hillbilly no tendría por qué significar nada negativo en la manera de pensar. Two years later, after your debut, you recorded “Folk Blues and Booze” (2011), a really great album soaked of Deep Blues, Folk, Gospel and Raw Old School Rock& Rock, which are the differences of both ones? | Dos años después de tu debut con aquel álbum, grabaste “Folk Blues and Booze” en el 2011, un disco realmente bueno empapado de Deep Blues, Folk, Gospel y crudo Rock and Roll de la vieja escuela, ¿cual es la diferencia entre estos dos discos? |
| 10. Hillbilly Love we were excited about getting in the studio and taking advantage of the technology we had using different effects and layering vocals. It came out sounding thick and rock n roll. Folk Blue & Booze I wanted to capture more of my live sound. One vocal track, one guitar track and my footdrum. The more folky sounding songs like Kings & Queens, Dinks Song, Stick Shift etcetera were recorded with just my vocals, guitar and stomping one the floor all in one track. We recorded in an old court house with high ceilings and an all wood room. The room had a beautiful natural reverb sound to it. Recording this way captured my sound very naturally. Sometimes when you record like we did the first CD (one track at a time) it can feel very dissected and its hard to get the same feeling and energy out that I have when playing everything all together. I do enjoy the creative process of both. | Hillbilly Love fue realmente excitante, sobre todo añadiendo técnicas y tecnología nueva con efectos y voces. Salió un disco bastante espeso de Rock n’ Roll. En «Folk Blues & Booze» quería capturar más ese sonido de mi directo. Mi voz, mi guitarra y la batería. En las canciones más Folk como «Kings & Queens», «Dinks Song», o «Stick Shift» usé esas armas más el zapateo contra el suelo en una sola toma. Fue grabado en una vieja casa de campo con techos altos y suelos de madera. El reverb de aquella habitación era maravilloso. Grabado de aquella forma tan natural me llenó del todo. |
| 11. Are you absorved in writing new songs for your third album? And are you gonna present some track in Spain and Europe? Can you advance us some titles or name of the new album for our readers Molly? What about that album/song called “Turkey Snappin’ Mama” with The Ten Foot Polecats? |

| 11. I have been writing a few new songs at the moment. Should be recording them soon but we are a long way off from being able to put out another album. And Yes! gonna present some songs in Spain and Europe. Not sure what its going to be called. That song, “Turkey Snappin’ Mama” with The Ten Foot Polecats, was inspired by my Grandma Dyer who worked on the Dyer Turkey Farm. She was a hard core woman who had no problem snappin turkey necks. I never got to meet her but I often get compared to her. The stories I hear are good song material. Hope to record some more songs with The Ten Foot Pole Cats and maybe put out an EP one day. | Últimamente he estado escribiendo canciones. Seguro que comenzaré a grabarlas pronto, pero de ahí a que se publique el nuevo disco queda un largo trecho. ¡Y sí! nuevas canciones serán presentadas en España y mi gira europea. | 13. It was an awesome tour. It was my first time going out to the west coast. When I was on that tour November of 2010 I called my boss when I was in San Francisco. I told him he was going to lose his favourite pancake maker. I have been a full time touring musician ever since. I plan to keep it that way as long as I can. | Fue una gira realmente espectacular e increíble. Mi primera vez en la costa Oeste de Estados Unidos. | 14. Mississippi Fred McDowell amazes me. I love his slide technique. There is an album ‘Mississippi Delta Spirituals By The Hunter’s Chapel Singers Of Como, Mississippi.’ This is a great example of the Delta Blues and Gospel music of that time. Their passion is real and it hits me hard.Led Zeppelin is right up there for me. Their self titled DVD is one I revisit often. The first DVD performance is by far my favourite performance I have ever seen by them. | Mississippi Fred McDowell me vuelve loca. Me encanta su técnica del slide con la guitarra. | 15. I’d love to be at the same stage with Clutch. The Hooten Hallers I met on the road and they live about an hour away from me in Colombia Missouri. They are Delta Thrash! A two man band. The guitar player has a raspy low voice and plays a lot of slide. The drummer stands up when he plays and signs in a harmonizing falsetto voice. The combination of the two is original and sounds great. I hope to see them make it over to Europe. You all would love them. | Me encantaría estar en el mismo escenario con Clutch. Con los The Hooten Hallers que viven a una hora de donde vivo en Columbia, Missouri, ¡son realmente Delta Thrash como yo! | 16. Lately I have been studying Buddhism and practicing my meditation. It has brought peace and happiness into my life. I cook a lot when I’m home. I use to be a chief in a vegan restaurant. This is my favourite recipe that tastes just like a pulled pork sandwich!BBQ Jackfruit-4 Cloves garlic, Minced-3/4 t grated ginger root (do not smash down in measuring spoon)-3/4 C water-20 oz green jackfruit (in brine or water), drained and rinse well.-Pinch ground chipotle pepper-1/4 t liquid smoke-1/2 t fine saltHeat pan over medium-high heat. Add garlic, ginger, water, jackfruit, chipotle, liquid smoke, salt, and 1 C BBQ sauce, toss well. Lower heat to simmer until jackfruit shreds easily with a fork, approx 30 min. Lightly butter bun, grill on hot skillet until golden brown. Served with lettuce and pickle. | Últimamente he estado estudiando Budismo y practicando meditación. Me ha traído mucha paz y felicidad a mi vida. Cocino un montón cuando estoy en casa. Fui la jefa de un restaurante Vegano (no se come producto o género que proceda de animales) durante un tiempo. La receta consiste en saltear en aceite cuatro dientes de ajo, una cucharada de jengribre fresco rallado, medio kilo de pulpa de Jackfruit, una cucharadita de pimiento chipotle, líquido con sabor a ahumado, sal y salsa de barbacoa. Hervir durante 30 minutos hasta que la pulpa de la fruta comience a separarse. Aparte tuestas dos panes con margarina sobre una parrilla y rellenas el pan con la mezcla anterior. Acompáñalo o introduce lechuga y pepinillos en vingre. |
| 17. How was your first experience in Europe with the Muddy Roots Europe Festival this year in Belgium and other country (ies)? And which are the main differences between US audience and European ones? |
¿Que tal fue tu primera experiencia europea en cuanto a giras en el Festival Muddy Roots celebrado en Bélgica este año?, y ¿cuáles son las diferencias más notables entre un público norteamericano y europeo durantes los conciertos? |
| 17. Muddy Roots was a fun experience. It was fun seeing a lot of my musician friends from the states all in one place. I got to make some new friends as well. My performance that day was very bad. I had a terrible cold and I was having a lot of technical difficulties.Europeans actually listen when you play. Most Americans (not all but most) do not listen when you play. They talk loud and are there to get wasted. You are their background music. This country is very over stimulated and most people cannot focus on one thing for very long. Many places are filled with live music, flashing billboards and technology has replaced the majority of our face to face contact. There are however people in the United States that listen. You will find most of them congregating at festivals like Muddy Roots, Farmageddon and Deep Blues.Europeans however I find are a different breed. In conversation they are genuinely interested in what you have to say. Many club owners had dinner with me before the show. They genuinely wanted to get to know me and make sure I was taken care of while I was there. The hospitality was amazing. It really made me want to move to Europe just to be around people like this. | Muddy Roots fue una experiencia realmente divertida. Fue ameno ver a tantos amigos músicos desde Estados Unidos en un solo lugar como era Bélgica. Hice bastantes amistades por allá. Mi actuación en el festival fue realmente mala. Estaba resfriada y tuve muchos problemas técnicos al tocar. Los europeos escuchan cuando tocas, los norteamericanos, la gran mayoría, no todos, no escuchan cuando estás tocando. Hablan muy alto y se emborrachan, estás en un segundo plano. Estados Unidos está demasiado sobre estimulado y la mayoría de la gente no puede centrarse en una cosa durante mucho tiempo. Hay muchísimos lugares para tocar en directo y una cartelera enorme y tecnología también que ha remplazado el contacto del cara a cara. Los fetivales que me gustan en mi país son el Muddy Roots, Farmageddon y Deep Blues. Los europeos que me he encontrado son de otra casta, en conversaciones están más interesados en lo que cuentas. Muchos dueños de los locales en Europa donde he tocado, cenan conmigo la noche anterior, se preocupan y cuidan el más mínimo detalle, la hospitalidad fue asombrosa e hizo que se me pasase por la cabeza mudarme al viejo continente. |
| 18. How’re your expectations about touring overseas and Spain? Do you know any spanish band or have you listen anyone? |

| 18. I don’t know what to expect going to Spain. I have never been. For some reason I have a lot of fans from Spain I have noticed online. I don’t know why but that’s great. I’m sure it will be fantastic. Not really. There is this one band I like from Australia Puta Madre Brothers. They speak some Spanish in their songs. They are like 3 one man bands put together. A lot of fun to watch. | No se que esperarme en España cuando esté por allá, porque nunca he estado. Me he dado cuenta que tengo más fans a través de internet desde España. No se por qué, pero me encanta. Estoy segura de que será fantástico. No conozco a ninguna banda o artista español. Hay una banda australiana que me gusta «Puta Madre Brothers». Cantan en español sus canciones. Son como tres hombre-orquesta en un mismo grupo, y verdaderamente son muy divertidos en directo. |
