Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men) publicaron el pasado 8 de febrero su quinto disco de estudio titulado “Sons of Ancients Times”, que contiene trece canciones bastardas de Country Trash, grabado y producido en Somastudios Zofingen por Dave Hofmann (Heidy Feliz, Leech, Chewy, Redwood, China) y masterizado por Ed Brooks (Pearl Jam) en los estudios de RFI en Seattle.
Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men) lo componen Lt Slam, Howie, Mr. Drake, Ross the red y Bennet Young, proceden de Suiza y comienzan una nueva gira por España el próximo 25 de abril con diez fechas confirmadas hasta el 5 de mayo.
Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men), comenzaron su andadura musical en Berna en el año 2006 y desde entonces han publicado cinco discos hasta el momento Vicious Songs (2007), Gulty (2008), A Fistful of Songs (2009) y su penúltimo Renegade (2011).

| 1. How’s been Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men), feedback with the Spanish audience during these years? |
¿Cómo ha sido la interacción entre Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men) y el público español durantes todos estos años? |
| Spain was always very friendly to us, you guys know exactly how to rock all night long. It seems like whole Spain loves electric guitars. In the past we got lots of positive feedback after our shows. Unfortunately we could not make it to Spain in the last three years because we toured a lot in Italy, Germany and Switzerland. But with our new booking agency “Teenagehead Music” we got the chance to come back to Spain and that’s just perfect for us!! | España siempre ha sido muy amable con nosotros y sabéis cuánto dura el rock toda la noche Parece como si España entera amase las guitarras eléctricas. Durantes los tres últimos años no pudimos estar de gira por España debido a que la agenda estuvo repleta de conciertos en Italia, Alemania y Suiza. “Sons of Ancients Times”, es el nuevo título de vuestro quinto álbum de estudio. ¿Cuáles son las diferencias entre el nuevo disco y el anterior «Vicious Songs» (2007)? |
| SLAM & HOWIE started as a two man band in 2006. In early 2007 we decided to record the first album and needed a bassplayer and an additional guitarist. We found these guys only 2 week before the studio-date. We were young, wild and very spontaneous. We recorded the whole album in 2.5 days only!! Now six years and 550 concerts later we got many impressions from all over Europe listened to tons of other bands, got influenced by some of them and last but not least we grow older… With the last two records (Renegade, Sons of ancient times) we decided to give up any musical boundaries just writing the best possible songs. We worked lot more on the songs and especially on the lyrics than we did on our first record. In our early days our songs were slow or ultra fast, nowdays we even wrote midtempo songs. Another difference are the instruments we used. On the first record you’ll hear electric and acoustic guitars only. On “Sons of ancient times” there are way more instruments like banjo, mandolin, slide guitar, lapsteel, harmonium and baritone guitar.These are some of the reasons why our records got more versatile during the last years. | Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men), comenzó como una banda de dos miembros en el 2006. A comienzos del 2007 decidimos grabar nuestro primer disco, necesitando encontrar un bajista y guitarra. En dos semamas dimos con ellos y nos metimos en el estudio de grabación. Éramos salvajes, jóvenes y espontáneos. ¡Grabamos el disco en dos días y medio!. Seis años después y más de 550 conciertos a nuestras espaldas, hemos crecido como banda, a través del aprendizaje de todos estos años. Con los dos últimos discos (Renegade y Sons of ancient times), abandonamos cualquier límite musical para centrarnos especialmente en las letras de nuestras canciones. Al comienzo nuestras canciones o era muy lentas o súper rápidas, ahora encontramos ese término medio. Otra diferencia son los instrumentos que utilizamos. En nuestro primer disco encotrarás solamentes guitarras acústicas y eléctricas. Ahoa en “Sons of ancient times”, hay muchísimos más instrumentos como el banjo, la mandolina, slides, armónicas, lapsteel o armonio. Éstas son algunas de las razones por las que nuestros disco son más versátiles a lo largo de los años. |

| SLAM & HOWIE plays honest, handmade rockabilly-bluegrass-rockin’-country music. Our shows are very versatile. That means you’ll hear the whole bandwith of good music. From hip-shakin’ rockabilly tunes to hillbilly bluegrass songs just to continue with a sad country ballad and end up with a hard rocking guitar attack! There will be three rockin’ guitars, a pounding drumset, a gravedigger bass, a restless banjo and a lovely mandolin. Songs to dance, to bang your head, songs to drink and even the soundtrack to make free love. | Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men), son honestos a la hora de tocar sencillo rockabilly-bluegrass-rockin’-country music. Nuestros conciertos son muy transformables. Eso significa que nos escucharás como un ancho de banda de buena música. | All the guitar players in the band grew up with good old hardrock bands like AC/DC, Krokus, Kiss, Scorpions then we listened to heavy metal. After metal classic rock was the thing to learn (Rolling Stones, CCR, Beatles, Doors). Then one day Johnny Cash showed up and infected us with the country/rockabilly/Americana virus. Our drummer is a very young dude and he listened to stuff you don’t want to hear. The bassplayer is an old metalhead as well. It might sound strange that hardrock and metal guys decided to play country rock but these genres have a lot in common: It’s handmade guitar music and that’s what we like and so do our fans. | Todos nuestros guitarristas crecieron escuchando a grupos como AC/DC, Krokus, Kiss o Scorpions, luego pasaron al Heavy Metal. Tras ellos Rolling Stones, CCR, Beatles, Doors, y un día Johnny Cash nos enseñó e infectó con todo ese virus del country/rockabilly/Americana. Nuestro jóven batería ha escuchado cosas que no te gustaría conocer. El bajista es muy metalero. Podrá sonar extaño que esta gente tan cañera quisiera tocar Country Rock, pero esos géneros tienen mucho en común. Música guitarrera sencilla que nos gusta y a nuestros fans. |
| 5. The thirteen songs of your brand new and debut album, are influenced by whom and what do they talk about? |

| While we were recording “Sons of ancient times” we had the ritual that we were listening to one song of Neil Young’s “Harvest” album every morning before we started recording. I always liked the variety of “Exile on mainstreet” (Rolling Stones). They mixed different styles like blues, rock even country on this album but in the end it sounded like the Stones. That’s what characterizes a good band. For the new album I worked much more on the lyrics. I thought a lot about stories that haven’t been told a hundred times, I put the focus on strong lines and less on the rhymes. Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen are excellent storyteller, you always can learn from these guys. | Mientras grabábamos “Sons of ancient times”, teníamos que escuchar el «Harvest» de Neil Young, cada mañana antes de ir a grabar. Al igual que la diversidad del «Exile on Main St.» de The Rolling Stones. Mezclaron el Blues, el Country y el Rock en el álbum, sonando al final a Stones, y es lo que define a una banda. Trabajamos muchísimo en las composiciones, historias que nunca contamos, poniendo más hincapié en las líneas que en el ritmo. Bob Dylan y Bruce Sprigsteen son excelentes contadores de historias, siempre aprendes de éstos tipos. |

| 6. Where are you located Switzerland which are the main differences between the music you make, the music normally swiss people listen on the radio or tv, meaning roots music are a small or big genre in you country? |
Estáis en Suiza, que es dónde vivís. ¿Qué diferencias musicales observáis en vuestro país, respecto al oyente habitual transalpino? ¿El género musical de raíces norteamericano es popular en Suiza? |
| We are based in Berne, the beautiful capital of Switzerland. Switzerland is kinda strange country music-wise because it’s very small and the country is divided by three different languages (German, French, Italian). Therefore there are kinda three rock scenes in our country. Some bands are known in all three regions (mostly English singing bands like we are), bands singing in their own language are only known in their part of Switzerland.No, Switzerland has no big roots music scene there are a few bands but not many. We are quite unique with our style. But even swiss people noticed that roots music can be lots of fun and guarantees a good party. So over the last couple of years we built a fan-crowd that supports us on our shows, we appreciate that a lot. Unfortunately the tv and radio-stations still prefers to support and broadcast silly chart-bands… but that’s the way it works all over Europe. Anyway… it’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ‘n’ roll |
Vivimos en Berna, la preciosa capital de Suiza. Es un tanto extraño porque confluyen tres lenguajes diferentes en nuestro país como son son el alemán, francés e italiano. Por tanto existen tres escenas rock en el país. Algunos grupos son conocidos en las tres zonas, porque cantan en inglés. Las que cantan en nuestro idioma, solamente se conocen en una zona. La música de raíces es pobre en nuestro país, somo únicos en nuestro estilo musical. Hemos creado y construido un importante grupo de fans a lo largo de estos años, mostrando ese estilo. Desafortunadamente las emisoras de radio prefieren continuar con esas bandas y nombres estúpidas. Esa es la manera de funcionar en toda Europa. De todas maneras, hay un largo camino para llegar a lo más alto si quieres roncanrolear. |
| 7. How are Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men) on the stage? Do you make cover versions? |
¿Cómo son Slam And Howie (And The Reserve Men) encima de un escenario? ¿Hacéis versiones? |
| We love to play live, it’s the thing we’re best at. SLAM & HOWIE and the reserve men are a five piece band. Drums, bassplayer and three guitarists. Every guitarist plays another acoustic instrument. Lt Slam sings and plays the acoustic guitar, Howie plays the mandolin and Ross the red abuses the banjo. You can imagine there are many possible combinations how to combine three electric guitars and three acoustic instruments. Yes, there are a few cover songs in our repertoire but we don’t play more than 2 or 3 cover songs in a 90 minutes show. But it’s good to have them so we can change them every night. Normally we play “Johnny come lately” by Steve Earle, “Old Dan Tucker” is an old traditional. Then we’ve got a slow country version of AC/DC’s “You shook me all night long” and a very fast version of “That’s alright mama”. From time to time we play another old traditional “Drunken Sailor”. And last but not least we play on of my all time favourite song “Dead Flowers” by the Rolling Stones. |
Somos una banda de directo, y nos encanta tocar a los cinco. Cada miembro de la banda también toca otros instrumentos. Lt Slam canta y toca la guitarra acústica, Howie toca la mandolina y Ross abusa del banjo. Te puedes imaginar la cantidad de combinaciones al escucharlos si se deciden por la acústica o eléctrica.Sí, hay un par de versiones que interpretamos, pero no tocamos más de dos o tres, pero es bueno siempre tenerlas en el cargador. Normalmente tocamos “Johnny come lately” de Steve Earle, o “Old Dan Tucker” que es un clásico tradicional. Luego tenemos canciones de AC/DC en versión country, lentas como “You shook me all night long” o la versión más rápida de “That’s alright mama”. De vez en cuando intepretamos otro clásico como «Drunken Sailor» y una de mis favoritas «Dead Flowers» de los Rolling Stones. |
| 8. What kind of music do you usually like? Any good song, record, band you lately like? |

| I listen to any kind of guitar-based music. To be honest I don’t listen to electro and hip hop, that’s not my cup of tea. I really like the new Blackberry Smoke record, the Delta Saints debut is just great and the Black Keys always make my day. Recently I discovered the new band from the Hellacopters singer “Imperial State Electric” they are rocking in an excellent 70ies way. The new ZZ Top album was a big surprise to me, man… you can smell the desert!! Besides that I like the old classic stuff. Right now I get into the whole Marshall Tucker Band anthology. And whenever John Hiatt releases a new record, I gotta get it! | Escucho cualquier tipo de música que esté apoyada en guitarras. No escucho electrónica o hip-hop. Me gusta mucho lo nuevo de lackberry Smoke, o el nuevo disco de The Delta Saints. The Black Keys siempre me hacen feliz. Hace muy poco descubrí una nueva banda The Hellacopters, el cantante de Imperial State Electric, excelente en su estilo setentero. El nuevo disco de ZZ Top, ha sido una gran sopresa para mi, ¡puedo hasta oler el desierto!. También me encanta todo lo clásico, ahora mismo escucho toda la antología de Marshall Trucker Band, y cuando John Hiatt pone un disco en circulación, ¡tengo que comprarlo!. |
| 9. What are your expectations coming to Spain this time? |
¿Cuáles son vuestras expectativas acerca de vuestra gira y visita a España? |
| I’m pretty sure we’re gonna have hell of a good time. I hope we’ll meet people we already met before and of course I’d be great to see many new faces on our shows. We got very good feedback from the Spanish press so far, we are very happy about that. We put together an entertaining setlist with lots of new songs but we didn’t forget our old ones. So everybody should be satisfied by the end of the night. SLAM & HOWIE are better than ever and we’re looking forward to the country with the best audience in Europe!! Last but not least the Spanish jamon is worth the trip | Estoy completamente seguro |

| To be honest I only know a few bands… for example Las Culebras from basque country. A very, very dangerous girl-band. They know how to party hard J. Besides that I like Sex Museum and the old stuff from Dover, great band!! | Para ser justo, conozco solamente un par de bandas. Por ejemplo Las Cuelebras del País Vasco, na banda femenina muy peligrosa. Los Sex Museu, y el material antiguo de Dover, ¡¡gran banda!! |
