Vintage Trouble estarán de gira por primera vez en España en el mes de julio de 2014 para presentar su nuevo y reciete trabajo, un EP de cinco canciones titulado (2014), y su anterior trabajo «The Bomb Shelter Sessions» (2011), con tal motivo hemos querido hacerle una entrevista a los cuatro componentes de la banda angelina compuesta por Ty Taylor (cantante), Nalle Colt (guitarrista), Rick Barrio Dill (bajista) y Richard Danielson (batería), formación que acaba de firmar un contrato con el prestigioso sello discográfico Blue Note Records, dirigido por el «Stones» Don Was.
Vintage Trouble acaban de publicar este mes de junio su primer trabajo con el sello discográfico Blue Note Records «The Swing House Acoustic Sessions», un EP de cinco canciones, tres temas nuevos y dos versiones de su único larga duración de los californianos, el feroz tratado de Rhythm & Blues y Soul titulado “The Bomb Shelter Sessions”.
Booker T. Jones contó con ellos para su último disco, estuvieron de gira junto a The Who en 51 conciertos repartidos entre Europa y Estados Unidos, abrieron el último concierto de The Rolling Stones en el Hyde Park de Londres, ha tocado para el equipo de fútbol americano de Kiss en su estadio y recientemente han estado de gira por Japón.

Entrevista a los cuatro componentes de Vintage Trouble previa a su primera gira española en julio de 2014:
| 1. First of all, Welcome to Spain and tell us how has been your shows in Japan, L.A. Kiss Football game and lately in US? |
Lo primero de todo, bienvenidos a España Vintage Trouble y contadnos ¿cómo han sido vuestos conciertos en Japón y esos abriendo para el equipo de fútbol americano de Kiss en Los Angeles ultimamente? |
| Richard (drum player): Japan has been such a great experience. Our first time there we opened up the SummerSonic festival, which is a huge venue, and they made us feel like headliners.They are such music lovers and always make us feel very welcome, as we’ve played everything from large festivals to small clubs, so we’ve developed a relationship with Japan that we look forward to continuing. We really love it there, the culture, the people, everything about japan. As for that LA Kiss football game—what a fun gig. First of all it almost feels like a Kiss rock n roll show disguised as a football game, so it feels like a party which is a very comfortable place for us. So we fit right in, brought our brand of music to it and it worked out great. As for the US, we’ve been doing a headlining tour which ends with us playing the Bonaroo festival. What’s exciting about this is it’s such a huge US festival with so many great acts. So to be a part of it really feels great. And then we get to play Red Rocks, which has to be a bucket-list for any musician as it’s one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in the world. | Richard Danielson (batería de Vintage Trouble): Visitar Japón ha sido una experiencia increíble. Era la primera vez que abríamos para el SummerSonic Festival, un evento grandísimo, que nos hizo sentirnos como si fuésemos un cabeza de cartel. Hay muchísimos apasionados a la música en Japón, lo que hizo sentirnos muy bien, desde tocar en grandes festivales como en pequeños locales, de la que hemos construido una relación con ellos esperando en continuar en lo sucesivo. Nos encanta estar allá, su cultura, sus gentes en Japón.Sobre nuestra intervención durante un partido del equipo de Kiss en Los Angeles, aquello más bien parece un concierto que un evento deportivo, lo cual hizo sentirnos muy a gusto. Nos adaptamos a ello, llevamos nuestra música y la verdad, funcionó.En cuanto a las giras por nuestro país, Estados Unidos, hemos encabezado muchos festivales, el último este mes de junio en el Bonnaroo Festival. Uno de los grandes festivales del país. Luego tocaremos en Red Rocks en Colorado, uno de los lugares al aire libre más importantes y preciosos del mundo. |
| 2. How are Vintage Trouble now comparing from the beginning back in 2010? |

| Richard: 3 years of almost constant touring can do a lot for a band, so there is a simple time-factor at play. We’ve matured in so many ways. All the experiences of being out in the world have inspired us tremendously to grow as well, not only as artists, but as individuals. So it’s only natural to take this and filter it into our creative process. | Richard Danielson (batería de Vintage Trouble): Llevamos tres años de gira contínua que hacen un montón para la banda, factor añadido positivo a la hora de tocar. Hemos madurado de diferentes formas. | 3. How do you feel guys after your new sign with the record label Blue Note with the “Stones” Don Was? New records is coming? |
¿Cómo os sentís chicos después de firmar por el sello discográfico Blue Note con el productor y ejecutivo Don Was, responsable de discos de los Stones? ¿Nuevo disco de Vintage Trouble a la vista? |
| Richard: Bluenote is such a classic label, with some of the greatest musical “artists” of all time gracing there vinyl. So we are honored and humbled to be part of this historic company. And to have Don Was in our corner is something that has really set us at ease in so many ways. He’s a real music lover and fan, but also an incredible musician, so he is coming from so many places. With this he really embraces us for who and what we are as a band, even encouraging us to stay true. That is pretty rare for a record exec. We love Don Was and respect and admire him deeply. We could not be happier. As for a new record, we only just signed with Bluenote so we need to get the timing of a new release coordinated, so it’s looking like later this year is when we will be putting out our sophomore record. However, in the interim, we taken it upon ourselves to record a 5 song acoustic EP which should be out now. This was a really exciting session for us. We still recorded primarily live, but to strip even further down to acoustics was a fun challenge. As a drummer I had to come up with new ways to present the drum grooves, some I played on a single drum with my hands, some with sticks on different surfaces, some with my fingers. It made me have to play and think differently which was a fresh process. And recording acoustically really got us as a band back to the songs in a unique way. We did three new songs and two songs off the Bomb Shelter record that we completely flipped around. We’re excited about this release. | Richard Danielson (batería de Vintage Trouble): BlueNote es u sello discográfico fantástico y clásico, con alguno de los artistas que han visto crecer el vinilo. Nos sentimos honrados de ser parte de la historia de esta compañía. Y tener a Don Was en nuestra esquina es un gran alivio para instalarnos dentro de ella en un montón de sentidos. Es un gran apasionado a la música y aficionado a ella, un músico increíble también, porque ha sabido formarse desde diferentes puntos. Él nos ha acogido desde un primer momento muy bien, alentándonos a seguir como somos y no cambiar. Eso es muy extraño es un ejecutivo actual de una discográfica. Nos encanta Don Was, lo admiramos y respetamos profundamente. No podríamos estar más felices.En cuanto a un nuevo disco, acabamos firmar con Blue Note, o sea que tendremos que coordinar eso, pero creemos que será a finales de año, un segundo trabajo con ellos porque ya hemos grabado un EP de cinco canciones en acústico que debería estar ya en la calle. Fue una sesión de grabación bastante excitante para nosotros. Grabamos en directo nuetras canciones lo que las hace más difícil al «desnudarnos» delante del micrófono hace que el desafío sea más divertido.Como batería de Vintage Trouble presenté algunas maneras de utilizar mi instrumento, algunas solamente con las cajas, con las baquetas sobre diferentes superficies o algunas con los dedos. Grabar en acústico te hace tocar y pensar diferente, por lo que todos tuvimos que ir a una.Grabamos tres nuevas canciones y otras dos versionando temas de The Bomb Shelter, nuestro primer disco.La verdad que estamos muy excitados con este nuevo trabajo. |
| 4. How did The Bomb Shelter Sessions (2011) came together and should be a story behind the title of record or song? |
¿Cómo se forjó la realización de “The Bomb Shelter Sessions” (2011) y hay alguna historia detrás del título del disco? |
| Rick Barrio Dill (bass player): We were barely a band at the time as we had only been together 3 months but we already were playing a lot around town and needed something to sell at our gigs as well as we wanted to demo out the songs we were playing already by that time. Nalle had a friend who let us get into the studio for 3 days for almost no money and we went in and just recorded the songs for the most part as full takes, all together in one room. we recorded 11 songs in 2.5 days and what we came out with is what you hear today. We were pleasantly surprised at how the “live” type of recording worked for us and kept things feeling alive. its kind of paved the way we try and continue recording today where its all full takes all together in one room. As far as the name, the studio was called the Bomb Shelter Studio and we just took that idea. It worked on many levels and sounded cool so we loved it. 🙂 | Rick Barrio Dill (bajista de Vintage Trouble): Éramos apenas una pequeña banda en aquel momento con apenas tres meses de vida, tocando en muchos sitios de Los Angeles, pero necesitábamos grabar algo para poder vender nuestros conciertos. Nalle, el guitarra principal de la banda tenía un amigo que nos dejó grabar en su estudio durante tres días con muy poco dinero, tomas completas y todos en la misma sala. Grabamos once canciones en dos días y medio y salió lo que puedes escuchar ahora mismo. Estamos realemnte sorprendidos cómo aquella grabación en directo funcionó para nosotros, y nos sigue manteniendo vivos. Fue como una calle lista para nosotros de la continuamos grabando de esa forma.El nombre del disco se tomó del estudio que se llamaba casi igual «The Bomb Shelter Studio», de ahí viene su nombre. Sonaba cojonudo, y nos encantó. 🙂 |
| 5. When are you putting together a new EP or album? |
¿Cuándo publicáis un nuevo álbum o EP? |
| Rick Barrio Dill: RBD-We just finished a new EP that is an Acoustic 5 song record that has a combination of a few old songs completely re-arranged and a few new tunes. Its called the Swing House Acoustic Sessions and we are really excited to release this now. Its a different look on the band and we hope the fans will like it as much as we do. As far as the new studio record, we have lots of songs recorded and have been coming up with new material on a fairly constant basis. we hope to release a full new studio album by the end of 2014 or top of 2015. |
Rick Barrio Dill (bajista de Vintage Trouble): Acabamos de grabar un nuevo EP acústico de cinco canciones, una combinación de nuevas y viejas canciones transformadas. El EP se llama «The Swing House Acoustic Sessions» y estamos muy entusiasmados con su publicación. Una visión diferente de la banda que esperamos guste a nuestros fans como a nosotros. | 6. How was the experience Vintage Trouble opening for The Who last year at their US , UK and European Tour and that show in England opening for the The Rolling Stones? |

| Nalle: We ended up doing 51 dates with The Who thru US, UK and Europe. To end that whole experience with a Wembley Arena show and 5 days later open for the Stones in Hyde Park all I can say is EPIC! A boys dream and it will be hard to top. It’s such an honor to be next to these legends of music and we took it in. | Nalle Colt (guitarra principal de Vintage Trouble): Al final teloneamos a The Who en 51 conciertos entre Estados Unidos, Inglaterra y Europa. | 7. Any footnote with any member of The Rolling Stones or The Who with your music or performance? And was working with Booker T. Jones at “Sound the Alarm” last year? |

| Nalle: The Stones keep themselves fairly sheltered backstage so we didn’t really meet them. The Who on the other hand we had months of touring with so pretty unreal when Pete Townshend comes and hangs with you at catering chatting about his yachts and home life. He’s a deep minded fella. Surprised me how in tune he is with current music. Both Roger and Pete embraced us and supported us thru the whole tour. True gentlemen in every way.We met Booker T for the first time at Joss Stone show we supported in Los Angeles. We couldn’t believe that THE Booker T wanted to meet us! We are huge STAX fans and to find out that our hero Booker was Vintage Trouble fan…. wow. He told us he was recording in LA and asked us to come and visit the recording studio, We did and the energy was just perfect that day. We didn’t really have any music to work on so we just sat down with our instruments and started playing. I had a few chord ideas that been floating around so I let Booker and the band hear that and a few hours later we written Your Love Is No Love and Back To The Country. It was such a heavenly experience as a group of musicians coming together and making music at the spot. We will forever remember that session. We are proud to say Booker is now a dear friend of ours and we are looking into making more music with him soon. | Nalle Colt (guitarra principal de Vintage Trouble): Con los Rolling Stones fue más complicado porque estaban muy protegidos y resguardados en sus camerios, así que nunca los llegamos a conocer personalmente. Fue un día en el que no teníamos nada preparado, nos sentamos y empezamos a tocar y la energía comenzo a flotar en el aire. Tuve un par de ideas de cuerda y se las mostré a Booker T, unas horas más tarde escribimos «Your Love is no Love and Back to the Country». Fue una experiencia irrepetible tocar con él. Nunca olvidaremos aquella sesión de grabación. Estamos orgullosos de contar que Booker es ahora uno de nuestros amigos, y pronto grabaremos algo con él. |

| Ty Taylor (singer): For the most part vintage trouble we listen to a lot of music from the time period in the 1950s and the 1960s when rhythm and bluesAnd rock and roll had no line that divided the two. when people like Chuck Berry and Ike and Tina turner and Etta James, little Richard, the early Rolling Stones when they were making music that felt like you were somewhere that was dark and heavy and it was a reason to make music to bring you out of those heavy times and that’s kind of what we feel about music. music should be a refuge. should be something that helps you escape from the difficult times we are in. | Ty Taylor (cantante de Vintage Trouble): La mayoría de Vintage Trouble escucha muchísima música que va desde los 50’s y 60’s, cuando el Rhythm & Blues y el Rock and Roll estaban divididos en dos. Y cuando gente como Chuck Berry, Ike and Tina Turner, Etta James, Little Richard o unos Rolling Stones precoces comenzaron a hacer música que se sentía como algo oscuro e intenso, razón por la que nosotros también queremos que llegue al público y deseamos que sea un refugio. | 9. How is Los Angeles or California musical scene and their culture of Rhythm & Blues, Rock and Roll, Rock Blues and Soul right now? |

| Ty: The more I dig into the Los Angeles music scene the more I find there is more soul and rhythm and blues than would appear on the surface. LA has a bad wrap of being ungrounded but there are so many folks that are struggling to achieve a dream. And as we know when folks are feeling unheard, there will always be soul music as a cry out for validation.You have to look for these artists underground a lot but they are there and it’s good when you get to it.There is a new army of rhythm and blues and soul coming over the mountains of Los Angeles. | Ty Taylor (cantante de Vintage Trouble): Cuanto más sondeo en la escena musical en Los Angeles más Soul y Rhythm & Blues aparece en la superficie. Los Angeles tiene una mala reputació en cuanto a bandas underground, pero cambiará porque hay muchos amigos que están intentando cambiar eso y alcanzar su sueño. Y por lo que sabemos, cuando no te sientes escuchado, siempre hay Soul y lamento para autentificarlo. Tienes que buscar a esos artistas allá abajo, ahí están, y es bueno que se haga. | 11. Do you think musical scene in Europe is much more detached than United States or opposite and why? | ¿Creéis que en la escena musical en Europa, el oyente es más imparcial que en Estados o al revés y por qué? |
| Nalle: As an American band it feels very embracing to come to Europe. They are more open to new music I think . America takes a long time to work and thru history it has been proven to work very well with US to European transaction. We love Europe and we are really looking forward to come to Spain. | Nalle Colt (guitarra principal de Vintage Trouble): Siendo una banda americana sientes que siempre te reciben con los brazos abiertos en Europa. | Rick Barrio Dill: We are kind of an open book. We love to interact with all of the fans (the TroubleMakers) and we truly rely on this interaction at the shows and every day online and in person.
