Sven Hammond anuncia su primera gira española para este mes de marzo en la que celebran 10 años desde su formación por parte de esta banda holandesa de vigoroso Rock, Funk, Rhythm & Blues y Soul para presentar su nuevo disco “IV”, una de las bandas que sorprendieron gratamente en la pasada edición del Azkena Rock Festival.
Sven Figee teclista de la formación fundó la banda hace diez años bajo el nombre de Sven Hammond Soul, desde entonces cuatro discos y nuevos músicos han ido pasando por la banda hasta que llegó el alma y voz de ella, Ivan Peroti.
Desde entonces Sven Hammond simbolizan esa nueva generación de nuevas bandas de Rock y Soul primario que encauza Blues, Jazz y Funk en sus canciones con una actitud y energía deslumbrante en Holanda junto a DeWolff, De Staat, Birth of Joy, The Deaf, Drive Like Maria, Black Bottle Riot o Navarone entre otras.
Sven Hammond lo componen en la actualidad Ivan Peroti (voz), Sven Figee (teclados Hammond , Tim Eijmaal, (guitarra), Glenn Gaddum, (bajo) y Joost Kroon (batería) y se disponen a partir del día 7 de marzo en Bilbao a comenzar su primera gira española visitando ciudades como Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Zaragoza, Avilés y Cangas de Morrazo.

Entrevista a de Sven Hammond de la mano de su fundador Sven Figee:
1. Primero que nada, ¡daros la bienvenida Sven Hammond a España!, siendo grandes alumnos del sonido sucio más sucio del Rock and Roll y Soul, cómo Sven Hammond ha gestionado a lo largo de estos años desde su formación vuestros discos y ahora con un disco en directo en que celebráis vuestro décimo aniversario grabado en Paard Van Troje, Den Haag (Holanda),¿cómo encaráis esta próxima gira en España?
¡Estamos tremendamente entusiasmados con regresar a España de gira! Esperamos llevar nuestra música a cuanta más gente sea posible. Tuvimos un magnífico sabor de boca el año pasado en el Azkena Rock Festival, ¡y estamos como locos por volver!
2. ¿Cómo se construyó vuestro último disco “IV” (2015) ,alguna historia detrás de su título o alguna canción?, ¿se lograron vuestras metas en ese disco?
Nuestro último disco es resultado de componer y de estar improvisando constantemente todos nosotros en el estudio. Queríamos explorar más en los sonidos del Rhythm & Blues y rock llevarlo a nuestro terreno. Esperamos haber cumplido todos esos objetivos, por ahora creemos que estamos en el camino correcto ya que nuestra música se está exportando y salimos fuera de Holanda.
3. ¿Os impresionó el año pasado la reacción del público hacia vosotros en el Azkena Rock Festival?, ¿qué fue lo que más os gustó de aquella primera experiencia y festival?
¡¡¡NOS ENCANTÓ!!! De verdad, aquello fue absolutamente increíble. El festival está organizado de manera muy profesional además de ser muy tranquilo. Absolutamente fantástico. El concierto que también ofrecimos al día siguiente del festival en la Plaza de la Vírgen Blanca fue realmente sorprendente. La gente fue predispuesta y se consiguió esa magia. ¡¡Un conciertos que nunca olvidaremos!! ¡¡También debemos admitir que la gastronomía en la ciudad en la ciudad es para morirse!!
4. ¿Qué sensaciones tenéis sobre lo ocurrido en París y sus atentados terroristas, y cómo creéis que estos problemas podrían ser resueltos?. Residiendo en Holanda, ¿creéis que la situación vivida durante el concierto de Eagles of Death Metal podría ocurrir en vuestro país?
Desafortunadamente todo ese tipo de situaciones podrían ocurrir en cualquier lugar. Tuvimos algunos conciertos justo después de lo sucedido en París, haciendo incluso pensar si realizarlos o no. Lo único que podemos hacer como artistas, y seguidores de la música en todo el planeta es no dejarnos controlar por toda esas locas acciones por parte de la ideología más extrema. No tener miedo a ellas. No sobre controlar todo. Conducir la vida como cada uno querría vivirla. Personalmente creo que es importante, para nosotros en Europa, trabajar juntos como un equipo, y no estar tan distanciados. Aunque es una tarea harto complicada, lo más importante sería estar todos en el mismo barco, trabajar juntos y proteger nuestros valores y forma de vida.
5. ¿Qué significa el nombre de vuestra banda Sven Hammond?
Como fundador de la banda, Sven es mi nombre principal y comenzamos con una órgano Hammond como instrumento principal. Así es como surgió el nombre. La banda ha cambiado desde entonces: ahora Ivan lidera la voz y ahora somos una verdadera banda. Como ya había construido algo con aquel nombre inicial, decidimos mantenerlo.
6. ¿Podríais contar a la audiencia en España Sven Hammond de dónde procede vuestro aprendizaje y experiencia musical y qué, músicos os han inspirado o influenciado a la hora de crear vuestro propio estilo?
No acabaría de mencionarlos a todos. Hacemos nuestra música todos juntos. Somos cinco tipos con cinco diferentes gustos, pero con una meta bastante clara, hacer música sucia, cruda y con alma. Guitarras atrevidas entremezcladas con ritmos muy animados, un sucio Hammond y una gran voz en todo lo alto. Lenny Kravitz, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, The Black Keys, o Jimi Hendrix son algunos grandes artistas que siempre nos han inspirado. Nos encanta improvisar como una banda de Jazz, pero también nos encanta dar guerra como lo hacían Deep Purple o Led Zeppelin.
7. ¿Cual sería la mejor satisfacción que les gustaría llevarse tras los conciertos en España?
Deseo que mucha nos conozca y se los diga a sus amigos y así estar de vuelta en España una vez más. Sería fenomenal que esta gira española continuara con algunos estupendos festivales el próximo verano.
8. ¿Cómo es la escena musical de Holanda donde residís y su cultura en cuanto a géneros como Rock, Rhythm & Blues, Americana o Soul en estos momentos?
¡La escena actual holandesa está en estos momentos con mucha vitalidad! ¡Nos encantan formaciones como DeWolff, De Staat, Birth of Joy y The Deaf! Creo que todas ellas han venido a España. al igual que J So. ¡Orgulloso de decir que el rock and roll está yendo de puta en Holanda!
9. ¿Qué es lo mejor y peor de estar en una gira?
Lo mejor es descubrir nuevos lugares, encontrar nueva gente que pueda escuchar nuestras canciones, sea divertida, tenga buena gastronomía y algunas veces irnos con ellos de fiesta. Estar en la carretera y conducir tantos kilómetros estando lejos de casa se nos hace algunas veces complicado. Todo eso lo cura siempre tocar en directo.
10. ¿Qué tipo de música escucháis cuando vais de gira en la furgoneta, quién carga con el equipaje más pesado y qué hay en él? ¿Algún buen disco, canción, banda que os guste últimamente? ¿Conocéis algún artista español?
Ivan siempre trae música nueva y lo mejor para esos viajes en la carretera. El que carga todo nuestro equipaje es nuestro chófer Van DJ J. Y últimamente escuchamos desde Kendrick Lamar hasta Vivaldi 😉
11. ¿Cuál ha sido el lugar más cutre dónde hayáis tocado, y qué es lo más absurdo que os haya ocurrido durante una actuación? ¿Qué bebéis durante los conciertos y qué cosas malas hacéis cuando estáis tocando, cerveza o whisky?
Jajajajaja. Tenemos un montón de historias. Nos gusta siempre ofrecer a la gente el mejor concierto posible, para ello tenemos mucho cuidado con lo que respecta a la bebida. Nuestra costumbre antes de saltar al escenario es tomar un pequeño chupito de whisky. ¡Una cerveza bien fría justo después de terminar un concierto también se agradece!
12. ¿Prevéis una larga carrera como banda?
¡Absolutamente! Estamos celebrando nuestro décimo aniversario como banda y miramos hacia la próxima década.
13. ¿Hay algo que os gustaría decir Sven Hammond? y que no te hayamos preguntado?, ¿os gustaría enviarle un mensaje a los lectores de Dirty Rock para animarlos a ver uno de tus conciertos?
Deseosos estamos ya de volver a España. En unos pocos días nuestra gira comenzará. Y espero que mucha gente venga a vernos, prometemos tratarlos como se merecen, con una noche de sucio Rythm & Blues y crudo Rock and Roll. ¡No os arrepentiréis, nos vemos la próxima semana!
Interview to Sven Hammond
1. First of all, Welcome to Spain Sven Hammond!, being great students of the sound Dirty Gritty Rock and Roll Soul , how managed through the years and a and now a live album about your 10th year anniversary concert live album recorded at Paard Van Troje, Den Haag (Holland) , how are you facing your next Spanish tour ?
We are incredebly excited and looking forward to our Spanish tour! We hope to bring our music to as many people as posible. We had a great taste of Spain last year at Azkena rock and we can’t wait to come back!
2. How did “IV” , your last album, come together guys and should be a story behind the title of record or song? In sitting down to record «IV” what were your goals and do you think you accomplished them?
The last album was a result of many days of writing and jamming together in the studio. We wanted to explore more of the rythm and blues and rock sound and bring our music abroad. We hope we will accomplish all of our goals, for now it feels like we are on the right path as our music is bringing us outside of Holland now
3. Were you impressed last year you had the reception in the Azkena Rock Festival and their people? What do you like the most of the festival?
WE. LOVED. IT.!!! Really, it was absolutely great. The festival is organized in a very profesional yet relaxed fashion. Absolutely great. Also the show we did next day in Vitoria-Gaskeiz on the town square was mind blowing. So many people and everybody went for it! A gig we will never forget! Also we must admit the food is to die for!! WOW
4. Living in Netherland, do you think a situation like one lived at the Eagles of Death Metal concert could have ever happened there? What are your feelings about what happened in Paris a few days ago? How do you think these issues can be solved?
Unfortunately at this time these kind of extremely horrible things could happen anywhere. We had some shows short after Paris happened and it makes you think. The only thing we as artists and music lovers and people of the (free) world can do is not let ourselves be (mind)controlled by these crazy and extreme ideologies and actions. Not being afraid. Not ‘overcontrolling’ everything. Lead the life the way we wanna live it. Personnaly I think it is very important we, as Europe, work together like a team, not as seperate countries. Although it’s not an easy task, it is of the highest importance we work together as brothers to protect our values and way of life.
5. What does Sven Hammond mean?
I am the founder of the band, Sven is my first name and we started as an organ outfit with the Hammond as lead instrument. That’s it 😉 The band has changed though: now Ivan’s voice has taken the lead and we grew into a real band. Because we already build something with our first name, we decided to stick with it.
6. Could you tell Spanish audience guys musical background and Who inspires you to do what you do and which musicians that have influenced your sound and approach to creating your own style of music?
Almost to much to mention.. We make our music together. Five guys with different tastes, though with one goal; making dirty and gritty soul music. Groovy and rocky beats, with a raunchy guitar, a dirty hammond and a wonderful soulful voice on top. Lenny Kravitz, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, The Black Keys, and Jimmy Hendrix have been some of the great artists that inspire us. We love to improvise like a jazz band but also like to rock like for instance Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin.
7. What is the best satisfaction you would like to take with you after the shows in Spain?
We hope many people will find and like us and tell their friends so we can come back and meet more. It would be great if this tour leads to some nice festivals this summer.
8. How is Holland musical scene and their culture of Rock and Rock right now and specially talking about Rock and Roll, Blues, Soul, Americana, etc? What bands do you follow in Holland ?
The Dutch music scene is very vivid! We love bands like DeWollf, De Staat, Birth of Joy and The Deaf! I think most of them are coming to Spain as well J So I’m proud to say rock and roll is doing great in Holland!
9. What are the best and worst parts of being on tour?
The best is to discover new places, find new people for our music and have loads of fun, great food and sometimes a little party 😉 Driving long distances and being away from home can be sometimes a bit difficult. But we love to perform our music so much, it’s worth every little discomfort.
10. What kind of music you guys listen to while on the road in your van and who carries the biggest suitcase and what is in it? Any good song, record, band you lately like ? Do you know Spanish Rock or Rock artist, etc?
Ivan really likes to treat us on the newest and best music out there. Yep. He’s defo our tourVan DJ J We’ve been listening to many different artists and music. From Kendrick Lamar to Vivaldi 😉
11. What’s the seediest place in which you have ever played and What’s the most absurd thing that’s ever happened to you during a show? What do you drink during the shows and what kind of bad things do you do while playing? Are you guys Beer or Whiskey?
Hahaha…to many great stories for now maybe… We love to give the people the best show we can give so we are careful with drinking before. Our tradition is though to have a little shot of Whisky before we get on stage. A beer to cool down after is very appreciated yes. Thank you 😉
12. Do you foresee a long career as a band?
Absolutely! We just celebrated our 10th year anniversary and we are looking forward to the next decade
13. Is There anything you want to tell us we won’t ask you Sven Hammond? and Would you mind send Dirty Rock readers a message and encourage them to see Sven Hammond in your upcoming shows in Spain?
We just can’t wait to come to Spain.. Just a few days and our tour will start. We really hope lots of people will come to see us and we promise to treat them with an intense and long set of dirty gritty soul, rock and rythm and blues. You will not regret! See you next week!
