TajMo, el proyecto entre Taj Mahal y Keb’ Mó, Rick Estrin y Beth Hart, entre otros, han sido los grandes triunfadores de la 39 edición de los premios del Blues 2018 celebrado anoche en Memphis.
El ganador de la noche fue Taj Mahal quien obtuvo 4 premios, al de mejor artista del año (Premio B.B. King), mejor álbum de blues del año, mejor álbum de blues contemporáneo y mejor artista en acústico.
Le siguen con tres premios Rick Estrin como mejor artista masculino de Blues tradicional, mejor banda de blues del año Rick Estrin & the Nightcats y mejor canción de blues del año con “The Blues Ain’t Going Nowhere” de su fenomenal discos Groovin’ in Greaseland. Con tres premios también Keb’ Mó como ganador del mejor álbum de Blues del año con TajMo» junto a Taj Mahal y al mejor artista masculino de Blues contemporáneo.

Destacara a Beth Heart como mejor vocalista del Blues masculino o femenino del año, Walter Trout ganador del mejor discos de Blues Rock del año, Mike Zito al artista de Blues Rock del año, a los Southern Avenue como a los ganadores al mejor debut del año, Curtis Salgado y Mavis Staples como los ganadores a los mejores intérpretes de Soul Blues del año, entre otros.
Esta edición del 2018 la 39th Blues Music Awards Blues Awards BMA, está protegida por la fundación The Blues Hall of Fame, que es la que lo organiza desde hace 39 años y que cuenta con afiliaciones en más de 135 organizaciones relacionadas con el Blues y con miembros repartidos por más de veinte países.
La organización The Blues Foundation se fundó en 1980, y está dirigida por un gabinete de 25 personas con la misión preservar la historia del Blues y todo su legado patrimonial. Antiguamente los premios del Blues se denominaban W.C. Handy, los cuales se otorgan en reconocimiento a las mejores grabaciones e interpretaciones de Blues de ese año, posteriormente, el premio cambió su nombre por el de The Blues Music Awards.
Las gran noche del Blues, los premios más importantes del género que se entregaron anoche en el Halloran Centre for the Performing Arts and Education en la ciudad de Memphis, en la que estuvieron nominados 135 nombres, representados en 26 categorías. Además entraron a formar parte de la academia del blues este año, nombres como Pops Staples, Sam Lay, Mamie Smith, Thomas Dorsey y The Aces plus. También álbumes históricos por parte de Ma Rainey, B.B. King, Joe Turner, Bo Diddley, Albert King, y Booker T. & the MG’s entraron a formar parte del catálogo de álbumes clásicos del The Blues Hall of Fame.
Discos como «Blues Is King» (1967) de B.B. King, «See See Rider Blues» (1924) de Ma Rainey, «Cross Cut Saw» (1967) de Albert King, «Roll ‘Em Pete» (1938) de Joe Turner, «Green Onions» (1962) de Booker T. & the MG’s y el «I’m a Man», la cara B del disco de Bo Diddley de 1962, entraron a formar parte del catálogo de álbumes clásicos del The Blues Hall of Fame.
