ENGLISH:
Marianne Faithfulll and Warren Ellis recite poetry in She Walks in Beauty
She Walks in Beauty is Marianne Faithfull’s newest album with Australian multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis, member of Dirty Three, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Grinderman, and is set to be released on April 30th. Faithfull has put out one of the most distinctive and unique albums of her long and extraordinary life and career. She started recording right before the Covid-19 lockdown, during which time Marianne herself became infected and nearly died from the virus.
Nick Cave, Brian Eno, cellist Vincent Ségal and Warren Ellis, himself, all collaborate with musical arrangements on the album. Marianne recites 19th century British Romantic poems throughout the recording and named the album after Lord Byron’s depiction of infatuation, “She Walks In Beauty”. The album features three poems by Keats, two each by Shelley, Wordsworth and Byron, and one by Thomas Hood and Alfred Lord Tennyson. The recording was inspired by her school days at St Joseph’s Convent School in Reading.
