The British trio William The Conqueror are back to the fray with their third studio album, Maverick Thinker. The album was recorded at the legendary Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, something that has given us a glimpse into the evolution of the band’s sound with their visit to the North American west coast.
Un magnífico álbum con muchísima fuerza y profundidad lírica. Actual blues y folk pantanoso y escurridizo, afilado y empapado como una navaja. El protagonista de William The Conqueror es Ruarri Joseph, que conoce bien una melodía y un verso. La ironía de Joseph sugiere que la vida no es simplemente navegar y suspira y se lamenta en algo que respira pesado con el corazón y el alma. Este nuevo material no se filtra a través de vetas pop al que muchos llaman blues rock, ni se le acerca, todo loo contrario. Que fue divertido por un tiempo, pero que ya está desgastado.
The album is magnificent, full of strength and lyrical depth; contemporary blues and swampy folk that is as elusive, sharp and wet as a razor. The central figure of William The Conqueror is Ruarri Joseph, who knows his way around melodies and verses. Joseph wryly suggests that life is not simply about sailing through, as he rustles and sighs about something that breathes heavy with heart and soul. This new material doesn’t really flow through the pop veins that many call “blues rock”, nor does it even come close – quite the opposite, actually. That ride was fun for a while, but it seems to be dying out already.

Delta mud and California light trickle through Maverick Thinker, an album filled with rumbling and darkness as eerie as a remote moss-covered swamp.
William The Conqueror abrazan su su pasado mientras se expanden. El disco fusiona ágilmente la sucia y excitante esencia del rock con su nueva madurez creativa. Discazo.
William The Conqueror have embraced their past as they age. The album deftly fuses the dirty and exciting essence of rock with a new creative maturity. It’s one hell of an album.
