Entrevistamos a Garrett T. Capps, el fantástico y extravagante trovador de San Antonio, y autodenominado «tesoro nacional de Holanda», debido al nutrido círculo de seguidores que tiene entre la afición a la americana en el país Orange, donde casi es un fijo en nuestro querido festival Take Root. Garrett estará esta semana de gira por nuestro país.

Hola Garrett ¡Bienvenido a España, viva! No sé por dónde empezar con esta entrevista, considerando tu colorida historia, pero supongo que la primera pregunta lógica es: ¿Cómo fueron esos días durante la pandemia?
La pandemia apesta. Pero escribí un montón de música e hice un montón de álbumes. Incluyendo «I Love San Antone» y «People Are Beautiful».
¿Puedes contarnos más de las canciones que más te gustan? ¿Estás contento con el resultado final de tu último álbum lanzado el año pasado? ¿Por qué el título “I love San Antone”?
Creo que la canción principal, «People Are Beautiful», es realmente matadora. Todo el álbum de Martin tiene una vibra positiva. Me encanta «San Antone», es muy divertido y hay muchos aspectos destacados. Ambos álbumes intentan proyectar esperanzas de algún tipo.
Después de tu primera y excelente gira española en 2019, ¿Cuánto de diferente y de fiesta veremos en esta? ¿Quiénes serán los componentes de Nasa Country en esta gira?
Será la misma banda que tuvimos anoche (sic) pero sin trompeta. Hemos crecido mucho como banda a lo largo de los años. Estaremos tocando mucha música nueva.
Los Nasa Cowboys, su banda de acompañamiento, está formado por un puñado de científicos e ingenieros que, en su tiempo libre, acompaña a Garrett en sus viajes de cosmic country
Hablemos de Santiago Jiménez Jr. de la legendaria familia Jiménez. Cuéntame sobre esa relación y tenerlo en el álbum y su nuevo lanzamiento con “Still Kicking”
«Still Kicking» es otro proyecto que comencé durante la pandemia. Santiago se ha convertido en un buen amigo mío y es un verdadera estrella de San Antonio. Es un amante de la música y un gran tradicionalista que mantiene vivo al conjunto. También hace shows en vivo muy divertidos.
Estoy tan feliz de que Jesse Dayton quisiera lanzarlo en mi álbum. Tuvimos la fiesta de lanzamiento del álbum en San Antonio hace unos días. ¡¡¡Ahora estamos a punto de despegar en un vuelo a Barcelona!!!!
¿Cómo es el ambiente en los shows, después de tanto tiempo sin música en vivo?
¡Acojonante!
«La gente es preciosa» (People Is Beautiful). Así se llama esta gira europea que empieza en España. ¿De verdad crees eso con todas las cosas que vemos en la televisión y leemos en la prensa?
La frase People Are Beautiful puede significar muchas cosas. Tendremos copias del disco en la gira por España a la venta. En realidad, no sale hasta septiembre. La canción principal es seriamente movida y aborda algunos temas políticos.
¿Enchiladas o paella? ¿Austin o San Antonio?
Enchiladas. San Antonio.
¿Qué tiene Texas que no tiene ningún otro estado de su país?
The Lonesome Rose, el Honky tonk que regento en San Antone.
¿Qué papel jugó la música en tu vida, especialmente cuando eras niño?
A mi familia le encantaba la música y mi mamá es una gran pianista.
¿Qué es lo siguiente? ¿Cuáles son tus planes?
«People Are Beautiful» sale el 10 de septiembre y NASA Country grabará un nuevo álbum a finales de este año. Y, con suerte, muchos conciertos realmente emocionantes.

Hi Garrett Welcome to Spain, viva! I don’t know where to begin with this interview, considering your colorful history, but I suppose the logical first question is, How was those days during the pandemic?
The pandemic sucked. But I wrote a ton of music and made a bunch of albums. Including I Love San Antone and People Are Beautiful.
Can you run us through some more of the tracks on there you like? Are you happy with the final result of your latest album released last year? Why the title “I love San Antone”?
I think the title track People Are Beautiful really kills. The whole album Martin’s a positive vibe. I love San Antone is so fun and there are many highlights. Both albums try to project hope of some kind.
After your first and excellent Spanish tour in 2019, how much different and fiesta will we see in this one? Who will be the components of Nasa Country on this tour?
It’ll be the same band we had last night but without trumpet. We have grown a lot as a band over the years. We will be playing lots of new music.
Let’s talk about Santiago Jimenez Jr. of the legendary Jimenez family. Tell me about that relationship and having him on the album and his new release with “Still Kicking”
Still Kicking is another project I started during the pandemic. Santiago has become a good friend of mine and is a true San Antonio badass. He is a music lifer and a great traditionalist keeping conjunto alive. He puts on a very fun live show too.
I’m so happy Jesse Dayton wanted to release it on my album. We had the album release party in San Antone a few days go. Now we are about to take off on a flight to Barcelona!!!!

What is the atmosphere like at the shows, having been starved of live music for so long?
It kix ass
The people are beautiful, is called this European tour that begins in Spain. Do you really think so with all the things we see on TV and read in the press?
The phrase People Are Beautiful can mean many things. We will have copies of the album on the spain tour for sale. It doesn’t actually come out until September. The title track seriously rox and addresses some political issues.
Enchiladas or paella? Austin or San Antone?

What does Texas have that no other state in your country has?
The Lonesome Rose. the Honky tonk I own in San Antone.
What role did music play in your life, particularly as kids?
My family loved music and my mom is a great piano player.
So what’s next? What are your plans comin’ up?
People Are Beautiful comes out on 9/10 and NASA Country is gonna record a new album later this year. And hopefully lots of seriously rippin shows.
