Death Cab for Cutie y The Postal Service harán una gira conjunta para celebrar el 20º aniversario de Give Up, el único y aclamado disco de The Postal Service, y Transatlanticism, probablemente el mejor disco de Death Cab for Cutie y uno de los mejores de la primera década de este siglo.
Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service have teamed up to tour together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Give Up, The Postal Service’s highly-acclaimed and only album, and Transatlanticism, not only Death Cab for Cutie’s best album, but also one of the best of albums of the first decade of the 21st century.
The Postal Service, un supergrupo formado por Ben Gibbard (cantante de Death Cab for Cutie) y el productor Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel, Headset, Figurine), se fraguó a través de un proyecto en el que se mandaban CDs por correo (de ahí el nombre del proyecto) entre Seattle (Ben Gibbard) y California (Jimmy Tamborello). Trabajaban desde sus casas. Y sin verse. Tardaron seis meses en terminar Give Up. Podríamos calificar este disco como una mezcla de melodías pop (emo, según sus detractores) y una base musical hecha por samplers. La producción del disco corrió a cargo de Chris Walla, guitarrista y compositor en Death Cab For Cutie, quién también tocó la guitarra y el piano en algunas de las canciones. Lo más destacado del álbum, «Such Great Heights«, junto con otros grandes temas como «We Will Become Silhouettes» y «The District Sleeps Alone Tonight», han hecho que fuera el segundo disco más vendido de la historia del sello Sub Pop tras el Bleach de Nirvana.
The Postal Service, the supergroup founded by singer and frontman Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie ) and producer Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel, Headset, Figurine), embarked on a 6-month long project in which Gibbard and Tamborello worked from their homes (never even seeing each other) and mailed CDs back and forth from Seattle to California (hence the name of the project). The result, Give Up, described as a mixture of pop melodies (or even emo, according to their detractors) and a sampler-made musical base, was produced by Chris Walla, guitarist and composer of Death Cab For Cutie who also laid down some of the guitar and piano tracks on this album. The showcase song, «Such Great Heights,» along with other great hits like «We Will Become Silhouettes» or «The District Sleeps Alone Tonight,» made the album Sub Pop’s second best-selling album in history, only overshadowed by Nirvana‘s Bleach.
Por otra parte, su cuarto álbum de estudio, «Transatlanticism«, fue el disco que catapultó definitivamente a Death Cab For Cutie a la fama y que tuvo dos grandes continuaciones con Plans (2005) y Narrow Stairs (2008). El término «transatlanticism» fue acuñado por Ben Gibbard para definir la brecha emocional incomprensible entre dos amantes separados por distancias comprensibles. El disco es una colección de canciones amenas que abre con la melodramática «The New Year», continúa con la percusión suave y densa atmósfera de «Lightness», sigue con «The Sound of Settling», un tema más pop con unos deliciosos y alegres coros, sin olvidarnos de «Transatlanticism», quizás la canción principal del álbum, algo oscura e intensamente dramática. 11 canciones que te harán amar este álbum.
The band’s fourth studio album, Transatlanticism, definitively catapulted Death Cab For Cutie to fame, and was followed up by Plans (2005) and Narrow Stairs (2008). The album’s title, Transatlanticism is a term that was coined by Ben Gibbard to define the incomprehensible emotional breach between two lovers, separated by comprehensible distances. This collection of captivating songs opens with the melodramatic “The New Year”, and continues with the soft percussion and dense atmosphere of “Lightness” and more “poppy “The Sound of Settling”, with its refreshing and upbeat backing vocals. And we can’t forget “Transatlanticism”, the album’s title track, a somewhat dark and intensely dramatic piece… 11 songs that will make you love this album.
De momento, solo se han anunciado fechas en Estados Unidos para esta gira en la que Gibbard hará doblete cada noche. Sin embargo, la gira que Death Cab for Cutie está llevando a cabo para presentar su último disco, “Asphalt Meadows”, vendrá a Europa en 2023, aunque tristemente no pasará por España.
For the time being, Gibbard will only be fronting both groups on a tour around the U.S.. However, Death Cab for Cutie is scheduled to come to Europe in 2023 to promote their latest album, Asphalt Meadows, even though they sadly will not be coming to Spain.
