Alastair Greene presenta ‘ALIVE IN THE NEW WORLD’ (Whiskey Bayou Records): un disco producido, mezclado y masterizado por el nominado a un premio Grammy, Tab Benoit¸ un multi-instrumentalista que también participa como baterista en el disco. Alastair Greene has just released ‘ALIVE IN THE NEW WORLD’ (Whiskey Bayou Records): an album produced, mixed and mastered by multi-instrumentalist and Grammy Award nominee Tab Benoit, who also plays drums on the record. The ten songs on the album were recorded live during a six night run in May 2021 when Greene and his band sold out the City Winery (Chicago, Illinois).

Para ser honesta, la primera vez que vi su nombre, en verdad no me sonaba de nada. Pero solo hacía falta una rápida búsqueda en Google para encontrar una larga lista de artistas con los que este veterano guitarrista y cantautor de blues y rock sureño ha colaborado en los últimos casi 30 años. Aunque (todavía) no sea muy conocido en España, Alastair Greene, afamado sobre todo por su destreza con el slide y su forma melódica y conmovedora de tocar el blues, es un pilar de la escena musical del sur de California.
To be honest, the first time I saw his name, it really didn’t ring a bell. But all it took was a quick Google search to come across a long list of artists that this veteran singer-songwriter and southern rock / blues guitarist has worked with over the past nearly 30 years. Although he’s not too well known (yet) in Spain, Alastair Greene, especially famous for his slide skills and soulful, melodic blues, is a mainstay in the Southern California music scene.
Gracias a la educación musical que recibía por parte de una madre pianista, una buena colección familiar de discos (que incluía de todo, desde Bach y Beethoven hasta The Beatles o Stevie Wonder), y especialmente por parte de su abuelo, Chico Alvarez, quien tocaba la trompeta en la Stan Kenton Band en los años 40 y 50, Greene empezó a tocar el piano y el saxofón antes de descubrir la guitarra en el instituto, pasando del rock al blues en cuanto supo de leyendas como Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. Thanks to his mother’s piano playing and his family’s record collection (that included everything from Bach and Beethoven to the The Beatles and Stevie Wonder), and especially thanks to his late grandfather, Chico Alvarez, who played trumpet in the Stan Kenton Band in the 1940s and 1950s, Greene was blessed with a well-rounded music education at an early age. The California native started off on the piano and saxophone before discovering the guitar in high school, and went from rock to the blues as soon as he was introduced to legends like Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, or The Allman Brothers Band.

He also played and sang with the Alan Parsons Project for eight years, and is a longtime regular and host at the Blues Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee.

“I endeavor to play the Blues. It’s some of my favorite music. And I have a responsibility to inform where this music comes from,” Greene says. “This is a Black, African-American art form that is basically responsible for everything we love today. I want to be true to what I love.”

His passion and fascinating musical background led Greene to “go somewhere; find something.” Fortified by the historic Louisiana backdrop – a birthplace of Blues and Jazz – as well as his new bandmates and their cultural connection to the area, THE NEW WORLD BLUES and ALIVE IN THE WORLD both display Greene’s lifelong reverence for Delta and Chicago Blues, respectfully and affectingly, detailing each cut with honesty and respect.
