Tras los excelentes The Crumbs (2023) y Jericho (2022) nos llega una nueva entrega de Tony Logue. El de Kentucky nos trae una nueva colección de himnos a sumar a un cancionero que ya va alcanzando una consistencia nada desdeñable.

y acompañado por su banda The 184 no han dejado de tocar en directo y es en la carretera donde se han parido este nuevo grupo de canciones. Porque este disco es un grupo bien compacto en el que domina el conjunto más allá de ser una mera colección de temas inconexos.
«After the excellent The Crumbs (2023) and Jericho (2022) comes a new release from Tony Logue. The Kentucky native brings us a new collection of hymns to add to a songbook that is already reaching a not inconsiderable consistency. Since the release of The Crumbs in September 2023, and accompanied by his band The 184 they have not stopped playing live and it is on the road where this new group of songs have been born. Because this album is a very compact group in which the whole dominates beyond being a mere collection of unconnected songs».
Los adelantos en forma de Cinnamon Blonde con su ritmo trotón y The Dawn son los que abren el disco y ya presagiaban que Dark Horse apuntaba alto. En ocasiones como en Grindstone la banda suena más cruda y dura que nunca mientras que Honey Suckles es perfecta para conducir hacia el futuro al anochecer. Hay momentos más introspectivos como So Help Me God sobre la salud mental que resulta casi incómoda por su crudeza. Pero es en el tramo final donde encuentro las cotas más altas del álbum y demuestran la facilidad que atesora Logue para componer himnos herederos del mejor heartland rock.
Desde la cruda Yellow Rose al Honky Tonk de Hammer y la épica de Keeps Me Sane. Si en otras ocasiones hemos mencionado a Chris Wright o Steve Earle cuando hablamos de Tony Logue, en esta ocasión conviene traer a colación a Reckless Kelly, Whiskey Myers, la E Street Band o Tom Petty. Cierra el disco la intimista Thorns en la que Logue se abre en canal hablando sobre las adicciones que se han llevado al otro lado a más de un familiar.
«The previews in the form of Cinnamon Blonde with its trotting rhythm and The Dawn are the ones that open the album and already foreshadowed that Dark Horse was aiming high. At times like Grindstone the band sounds rawer and harder than ever while Honey Suckles is perfect for driving into the future at dusk. There are more introspective moments like So Help Me God about mental health that is almost uncomfortable in its rawness. But it is in the final stretch where I find the highest points of the album and demonstrate Logue’s facility to compose anthems heir to the best heartland rock. From the raw Yellow Rose to the honky tonk of Hammer and the epic of Keeps Me Sane. If on other occasions we have mentioned Chris Wright or Steve Earle when talking about Tony Logue, on this occasion it is worth mentioning Reckless Kelly, Whiskey Myers, the E Street Band or Tom Petty. The album closes with the intimate Thorns, in which Logue opens up about the addictions that have taken more than one family member to the other side».
En el lapso de 3 años Tony Logue ha entregado tres álbumes excelentes mientras los medios especializados (y los generalistas) siguen mirando hacia otro lado. Quizás sea mejor así y podamos disfrutar de este pequeño tesoro como algo para nosotros solos. En cualquier caso, seguiremos expectantes a los siguientes pasos de Tony Logue en el futuro.
«In the span of 3 years Tony Logue has delivered three excellent albums while the specialized (and general) media continue to look the other way. Perhaps it is better this way and we can enjoy this little treasure as something for ourselves. In any case, we will remain expectant for Tony Logue’s next steps in the future».
