Entrevista a The Black Marbles, cuarteto sueco de Hard Rock Blues y Rock and Roll compuesto por Marica Svensson, Krister Selander, Rickard Lindberg y Tobbe Bövik que visitan por primera vez España en una gira presentando su nuevo EP «Best Believe it», editado este año y con nueva cantante en la formación Marica Svensson por Kaj Paxéus y Rickard Lindberg a la guitarra, nuevos integrantes de la banda.
The Black Marbles está inmersos en la grabación de su segundo álbum de estudio que se llamará «Moving Mountains» y que se publicará este año. Los suecos como adelanto han publicado este 2016 un nuevo EP. Sonidos que nos recuerdan a Bad Company, Free, Foghat, Ross Hill Drive, Radio Moscow o The Parlor Mob en esta hornada de nuevas bandas suecas como Blues Pills, Spiders, Horisont y naturalmente Graveyard

Entrevista a The Black Marbles:
1. Primero que nada, ¡daros la bienvenida a The Black Marbles a España!, siendo grandes alumnos del Hard Rock Blues setentero, cómo Black Marbles ha gestionado a lo largo de estos 7 años desde vuestro anterior disco y ahora nuevo EP «Best Believe It», ¿cómo encaráis esta próxima gira en España?
¡Muchísimas gracias! Como locos por visitar por primera vez vuestro país y conocer de una vez a ese maravilloso público. Si nos ha llevado siete largos años para llegar donde estamos ahora. Tenemos en la actualidad nuevos componentes en la banda, hemos incidido en las letras de las canciones además de crear buenas melodías y ritmo en ellas. ¡Acabamos de lanzar este año un nuevo EP y esperamos publicar también nuevo disco este año!
2. ¿Cómo se construyó vuestro disco “Made in Concrete” (2013) ,alguna historia detrás de su título o alguna canción?, ¿ se lograron vuestras metas respecto al disco anterior y con el nuevo en camino llamado «Moving Mountains»?
Grabamos «Made in Concrete» en nuestro local de ensayo nosotros mismos. Tobbe Bövik, nuestro batería produjo y mezcló el disco en la que todas las canciones eran originales exceptuando una versión de Free «The Stealer». El significado del título del disco proviene de ese lugar donde ensayamos al que llamamos «el refugio», el cual está fabricado con hormigón. Pero también hacemos referencia al abuso humano del hormigón en todo el planeta. El nuevo disco efectivamente se llamará «Moving Mountains», será un poco más potente que el anterior, añadiremos más soul y experimentaremos un poco más en él. Estamos en estos momentos de la grabación añadiendo voces en un estudio profesionales y dejaremos que alguien fuera de la banda nos los produzca.
3. ¿Podríais contar a la audiencia en España The Black Marbles de dónde procede vuestro aprendizaje y experiencia musical y qué, músicos os han inspirado o influenciado a la hora de crear vuestro propio estilo?
Primero que nada deciros que todo partimos y nacimos en cuatro diferentes décadas. De los 60, 70, 80 y 90’s, lo que hace que nos alimentemos de una gran cantidad de influencias a la hora de componer canciones para The Black Marbles. No pretendemos ser una banda añeja o vintage al uso, por supuesto que nos encanta el Blues y Rock clásico, pero combinamos todas esas influencias y géneros que hemos mamado desde chicos en nuestras canciones.
Marica y Rickard tienen su propia banda de rocanrol llamada Ten Feet High y también tienen su propio proyecto llamada The Black Crew, una banda de Blues del Delta. Krister tocan en varias bandas, pero mayormente en una llamada Wood, que tiene un contrato importante con el sello discográfico Sony. Tobbe suele tocar la batería en una banda que se llama The Awsome Machine, formación que ha realizado un par de discos y giras. Escuchamos infinidad de grupos, se nos hace complicado citaros influencias determinadas, pero todo lo que contenga alma, ritmo y actitud y vaya directo a nuestros corazones nos gustará, seguro.
4.¿Cual sería la mejor satisfacción que les gustaría llevarse tras los conciertos en España?
Esperamos que el público se lo pase en grande como nosotros encima del escenario. Estamos seguros que la gente bailará y se lo pasará en grande jajajaja. Nos encantará conocer gente nueva y por supuesto que nos agradará conocer que a la gente le gustó lo que escuchó. Tocaremos viejo y nuevo material, ¡por supuesto nuevas canciones y haremos algo de improvisación!
5. ¿Cómo es la escena musical de Göteborg o Suecia que es donde residís y su cultura en cuanto a géneros como Rock, Hard Rock, Blues en estos momentos?
El mercado sueco es bastante complicado, esperemos que poco a poco vaya cediendo. Tenemos bandas increíbles, pero es muy complicado que ellas encuentren lugares en nuestro país para actuar, ¡debemos cambiarlo!. En estos momentos bandas como Blues Pills, Spiders, Horisont y naturalmente Graveyard están fuera de nuestras fronteras haciendo muy bien. Esperemos que el público sueco se de cuenta de ello y nos apoye muy pronto. Ya conoces el dicho, es complicado y nadie es profeta en su tierra.
6. ¿Qué tipo de música escucháis cuando vais de gira en la furgoneta, algún buen disco, canción, banda que os guste últimamente? ¿Conocéis algún artista español?
Escuchamos toda clase de música, supongo que AC/DC siempre funciona, igual que Thin Lizzy, Queen o Rainbow. Bandas suecas recomendaría a First Aid Kit, son realmente buenas. Entre las nuevas bandas que solemos escuchar nos gustan Rival Sons o The Temperance Movement por ejemplo. ¡Sobre bandas españolas, hemos de deciros que esperamos descubrirlas cuando estemos allí durante la gira!
7. ¿Qué sensaciones tenéis sobre lo ocurrido en París y sus atentados terroristas, y cómo creéis que estos problemas podrían ser resueltos?. Residiendo en Suecia, ¿creéis que la situación vivida durante el concierto de Eagles of Death Metal podría ocurrir en vuestro país?
Aquello fue horrible, conmocionados durante semanas por lo ocurrido. Si hubiésemos estado en París aquel día, seguramente que en aquella sala nos hubieseis encontrado. Para resolver este tipo de terrorismo no hay una respuesta en concreto. Lo que está claro es que no debemos desfallecer ante este tipo de gente. Miedo es lo que quieren y pretenden, si nos mantenemos unidos y fuertes, seguros que se mantendrán en sus madrigueras. En Suecia también hemos tenido acontecimientos relacionados con el terrorismo, hace unos unos años un hombre se mató así mismo en un tienda durante unas navidades muriendo una persona, eso puede ocurrir en cualquier momento. Necesitamos estar en alerta y nunca ignorar, sospechas o alertas.
8. ¿Hay algo que os gustaría decir Black Marbles? y que no os hayamos preguntado?, ¿os gustaría enviarle un mensaje a los lectores de Dirty Rock para animarlos a ver uno de vuestros conciertos?
¡Estamos muy contentos de contestaros y locos de visitar España! ¡A todos los lectores de la revista Dirty Rock deciros que escuchéis nuestro último trabajo que es un EP titulado «Best Believe it», y si te gusta acudid a nuestros conciertos. Daremos lo mejor para que lo pases en grande, nos vemos!
Interview to The Black Marbles:
1.First of all, Welcome to Spain Black Marbles!, being great students of the sound Hard Rock Blues of the 60’s and 70’s, how managed through these 7 years and after Made In Concrete álbum in 2013, your new EP this year called Best Believe It, a new record coming called Moving Mountains, and now facing your first Spanish tour ?
Thank you! We really look forward to this tour since we heard nothing but good about the Spanish audience. Yes it took 7 years to get there but when we started this band in 2009 it was important that we worked hard on the songwriting and to write songs with great groove and melody, and also to find the right sound for the Black Marbles. Since then we’ve had a couple of member changes but we’re back on track with our latest EP and a new album coming up which will be great!
2. How did “Made In Concrete” (2013) come together guys and should be a story behind the title of record or song? Wich are main differences between this new álbum called Moving Mountains compared to previous one?
We did Made In Concrete by ourselves in our rehearsal room. Drummer Tobbe Bövik produced and mixed the record and it consists of all originals except one cover of Free’s The Stealer. The title comes from our rehearsal space, called ‘The Bunker’, which is all concrete. But it is also a reference to mankind’s abuse to the earth in these days.
The new record ‘Moving Mountains’ will be a little heavier, but also more soul and a little more experimentation. This time we are recording the vocals in a professional studio and we will also let someone outside the band mix and master it.
3. The Black Marbles seem to bring a range of influences together, can you tell us about your background and which musicians that have influenced your sound and approach to creating your own style of music?
Well, first of all we are born in four different decades. We have the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and I think that provides a wide ground of influences to stand on when writing songs for The Black Marbles. Of course we all share the taste of blues and classic rock but we’re not trying to be a ‘vintage’ band. We combine the music we all love and make it into something fresh. We have all played many different styles and genres and I think that also adds up to the sound and songwriting.
Marica and Rickard had a rock’n’roll band together called Ten Feet High and they also have this delta blues project called The Black Brew. Krister played in several bands, mostly notable the band Wood which had a major contract on Sony Music. Tobbe used to play drums in The Awesome Machine, a stoner rock band that made a couple of albums and tours. We listen to a widely range of bands and artists so it is impossible to name a few, but everything with soul, groove, feel and a attitude will go straight to our hearts.
4. What is the best satisfaction you would like to take with you after the shows in Spain?
We just hope the audience will have as good time as we will. We will give them all and I am sure there will be some dancing in the room, haha. We love to meet new fans and we just hope they like what they hear. We will play both old and new material…and throw in a couple of surprises. And some jammin’ of course!
5. How is Göteborg and Sweden musical scene and their culture of Rock and Rock right now and specially talking about Rock and Roll, Blues, Hard Rock, etc? What bands do you follow in Sweden, Europe, around the world?
Sweden is a tough market but we hope it will loosen up soon enough. We have so many great bands but it is still quite hard to get gigs/tour around Sweden as a relatively unknown band. But things must change! Right now we have bands like Blues Pills, Spiders, Horisont and of course Graveyard that are really doing good outside Sweden. So hopefully our countrymen will awake soon. But as you know, it is hard to be a prophet in your own home country.
6. What kind of music you guys listen to while on the road in your van? Any good song, record, band you lately like ? Do you know Spanish Rock or Rock artist, etc?
We listen to all kinds of music, but I guess old AC/DC always works. Also Thin Lizzy, Queen and Rainbow. Among the softer stuff there’s this Swedish band called First Aid Kit that are really good. Among newer bands there are Rival Sons and The Temperance Movement for example. Our knowledge of Spanish rock bands is very limited, but hopefully we’ll discover some great Spanish artist during this tour!
7. What are your feelings about what happened in Paris a last year? How do you think these issues can be solved? Living in Sweden, do you think a situation like one lived at the Eagles of Death Metal concert could have ever happened there?
That was just such a terrible incident. We were all shocked of course. I thought that if I were in Paris that day, I’d probably be at that concert. This terrorism is such a big thing and there is no easy answer to solve the problem. But we must never give in to these people. Fear is what they want but if we all stand together and show them that love is such a stronger force, I guess they’ll slowly crawl back to their holes. In the past we have not had many threats of terror or incidents in Sweden, but just a couple of years ago this man blew himself up in the middle of Stockholm Christmas shopping. Fortunately nobody was killed except the bomber but it is here and it can happen anytime. We just need to be alert and never ignore any threats or suspicions.
8. Is There anything you want to tell us we won’t ask you The Black Marbles? and Would you mind send Dirty Rock readers a message and encourage them to see The Black Marbles in your upcoming shows in Spain?
