Tal día como hoy de 1986 los Metallica publicaban su tercer álbum de estudio, «Master of Puppets«, primero con el que consiguieron un disco de oro y un disco básico del Thrash metal. Fue el último grabado con su bajista Cliff Burton quien fallecía unos meses después en el famoso accidente de autobús en la gira por tierras danesas.

Uno de los más grandes bajistas, queda patente en la canción «Orion» de este disco la cual sonó en su funeral. Otros clásicos son «Battery» y «Master Of Puppets».

Yo me quedo con los 5 primeros álbumes de la banda, pero los 3 primeros sobre todo son canela. A partir del «Load» no les he hecho ni puto caso.

Tal día como hoy de 1997 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds publicaban su décimo álbum de estudio,«The Boatman’s Call». Un trabajo más sombrío, intimista y personal que sus antecesores debido a su reciente ruptura con PJ Harvey que le dejo bastante tocadete (3 de las canciones del álbum están dedicadas a ella) y sus problemas con el alcohol y la heroína (se rehabilitaría tras el lanzamiento de este álbum).

Es hasta aquel momento el disco más Nick Cave y menos Bad Seeds ya que la banda ocupa una posición más relegada dando sobretodo protagonismo a por supuesto la voz de Cave y su piano, un claro ejemplo es la maravillosa canción que abre el álbum «Into my Arms».

On This Day: Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” / Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds’ “The Boatman’s Call”

On this day in 1986, Metallica released their third studio album, Master of Puppets, their first record to go Gold and a mainstay in Thrash Metal. It was also the last album they would record with bass hero Cliff Burton, who died tragically a few months later in the famous bus accident on their Danish tour.

Cliff earns his spot as one of the greatest bass players of all times in the song “Orion”, featured on the album, which was incidentally played at his funeral. Other classics include “Battery” and “Master Of Puppets”.

My favorites are the band’s first 5 albums, especially their first 3 – they’re out of this world. After Load, I’ve basically lost track of them.

On this day in 1997, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds released their tenth studio album, The Boatman’s Call. A more somber, intimate and personal record than its predecessors, due to Cave’s recent breakup with PJ Harvey, which left him pretty much beside himself (3 of the album’s songs are dedicated to her). His problems with alcohol and heroin abuse didn’t help much, either, although he would check himself into rehab after the release of this album.

This album is their most ‘Nick Cave’ release and the least ‘Bad Seeds’, since you can feel that the band was sort of in the backseat while, understandably, more attention was drawn to Cave’s voice and piano. One clear example of this is the incredible opening track, “Into my Arms”.
