La 55ª edición de los premios Grammy celebra su gran fiesta el domingo 10 de febrero en el Staples Center de Los Angeles, unos días antes Bruce Springsteen será coronado como “Personaje del año” según el sindicato de la industria musical estadounidense en el MusiCares, fiesta paralela de la entrega de premios Grammy’s.

Una edición en la que hay seis artistas que reúnen seis nominaciones, como son The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons,  Frank Ocean, Fun., Kanye West yJay-Z. El Grammy al mejor disco del año está entre The Black Keys, Fun., Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean y también Jack White, que logra 3 nominaciones.

La 55ª edición de los premios Grammy tiene como a uno de los grandes momentos de la noche, la entrega de los Lifetime Achievement Award (Premios a una larga trayectoria), a Ravi Shankar, The Temptations, Carole King, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Patti Page, Glenn Gould, y Charlie Haden.

La organización de los Grammy, además rendirá un emotivo homenaje a Levon Helm, con una actuación conjunta de Brittany Howard de Alabama Shakes, Zac Brown, Mavis Staples y Elton John, T Bone Burnett será el encargado de llevar adelante este tributo musical durante la ceremonia de entrega de los premios Grammy.

Destacamos entre los nominados  a los adorados Alabama Shakes nominados en tres categorías, mejor banda novel, mejor actuación de Rock y a mejor presentación de álbum, y al magnífico trío de Folk The Lumineers con dos nominaciones mejor artista novel y mejor disco de Americana Music.

Dan Auerbach, The Black Keys está nominado como major productor del año, Bruce Springsteen, Alabama Shakes, The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons y Coldplay luchan por el Gramy a la major actuación Rock.

Al Grammy a la mejor canción y álbum de Rock comparten nominaciones Bruce Springsteen, The Black Keys, Jack White o Muse.

En cuanto al Grammy al mejor álbum de música alternativa tenemos a Tom Waits, Björk, o el magnífico disco de Fionna Apple “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do”.

Al major disco de Blues del año optan Dr. John, Shemekia Copeland, Heritage Blues Orchestra, Joan Osborne y Ruthier Foster, la cosa está más reñida en cuanto al Grammy al mejor álbum de Americana al que optan The Lumineers, Bonnie Raitt, The Avett Brothers, John Fullbright y Mumford & Sons, al igual que en el mejor disco Folk del año que optan Ry Cooder, Carolina Chocolate Drops, This One’s For Him: A Tribute To Guy, Luther Dickinson y Yo-yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile.

Al mejor disco Country optan al Grammy Zac Brown, el joven Hunter Hayes, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert y el magnífico disco de The Time Jumpers.

En otras categorías, The Rolling Stones optan al Grammy  al major Box Set edición de lujo con “Some Girls” luchando con otro Box Set fantástico dedicado a Woody Guthrie, “Woody At 100: The Woody Guthrie Centennial Collection”, la banda sonora de Marley opta al premio de mejor banda sonora,  Ravi Shankar al mejor disco de músicas del mundo con “The Living Room Sessions Part 1”, y en la categoría de álbum y Grammy de Reggae competido en el que optan tres fantásticos disco de Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytals y The Original Wailer junto a Sly Robbie & The Jam Masters y Sean Paul.

El Trustees Award (Premio al consejero),  que recaen en la figura del presidente de la discográfica Capitol Records, Alan Livingston, que falleció en el 2009 a los 91 años de edad, la legendaria pareja compositora Marilyn y Alan Bergman, y también en Leonard y Phil Chess, cofundadores de Chess Records, sello discográfico crucial e influyente en el desarrollo del Blues eléctrico, Rhythm & Blues, Rock and Roll, Soul y Jazz.

Ikutaro Kakehashi (de Roland Corporation) y Dave Smith (de Dave Smith Instruments), reciben los premios técnicos el Technical Grammy Award 2013 por el desarrollo del protocolo MIDI (Interfaz Digital de Instrumentos Musicales y de protocolo de comunicación serial estándar que permite a los ordenadores, sintetizadores, y otros dispositivos musicales electrónicos, comunicarse y compartir información para la generación de sonidos, el primer sintetizador equipado con MIDI fue el Prophet 600 que ha cumplido 30 años de existencia), al igual que la compañía de micrófonos Royer Labs, famoso por la creación y desarrollo de micrófonos de cinta o de velocidad, siendo importantísimos en la década de los años 40 y 50 con los modelos RCA 44-BX o el RCA Type 77-B1.

Ryan Cooder ha sido galardonado con el Grammy honorífico a la inspiración, denominado Grammy Hall of Fame Inspirations,  ganador de 6 premios Grammy y nominado este año también en la categoría de mejor álbum de Folk por “Election Special”.

Los premios Grammy están compuestos por 78 categorías y 38 géneros musicales, se  seotorgan por votación de los miembros de la academia National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. El rapero LL Cool J, será el encargado de presentar la ceremonia por segunda vez consecutiva el próximo domingo 10 de febrero a partir de la una de la madrugada de Canarias, una hora más en el territorio peninsular. (8.00 pm, Eastern Time y 5.00 Pacific Time) y a través de la CBS Television Network
